PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Quality Control Technician I provides quality control services to produce high quality Avient Protective Material products in a cost effective manner while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards.
JOB CONTEXT:
The Quality Control Technician I will operate within Avient Protective Material to provide quality testing expertise for raw and finished product materials. The person in this role will interact with all local staff. They will be knowledgeable of the Quality requirements for Avient Protective Material. They will ensure that laboratory procedures and equipment are kept in superior working order. Handling and disposing of Hazard waste and chemicals are part of normal activities.

Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility
1. All employees have the responsibility to:

4. Ensures all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Takes action to correct unsafe acts, systems and procedures. It is the responsibility of each employee to work in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace. Complies with all job-related safety and other training requirements.
5. Abides by Avient Protective Material procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Material intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or Avient Protective Material property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of Avient Protective Material property and keys.
6. Suggests facilities, procedural and process improvements to maintain and improve production quality, safety, cost and efficiency. Contribute to the effort during implementation of selected improvements.
7. Monitors and analyzes daily production. Analyzes data generated by the ballistics and fiber laboratories and identify trends. Recognizes potential production problems, investigate and recommend solutions to correct them. Reports variances as required.
8. Participates in quality investigations as needed. Works with a team, ensures all appropriate actions assigned are accomplished in a timely manner.
9. Prepares, reviews, and approves production records including operating procedures, and JSA's as required.
10. Interacts with production technicians on a regular basis to ensure effective communication of production and compliance related changes in procedures.
11. Follows current waste disposal procedures and prevention procedures. Ensures proper storage and disposal of liquid and solid hazardous wastes.
12. Follows current SOP's for testing routine and non-routine samples of raw material, intermediate, and finished products for the Avient Protective Material Organization.
13. Perform final packaging of finished product when required.
14. Follow established policies regarding sample and documentation retention.
15. Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
Authorities
Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Material (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.
COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB:
The Quality Control Technician I will interact with all staff locally within Avient Protective Material globally within Avient Protective Material, and corporate Avient Protective Material. Decisions and actions will impact Avient Protective Material.
KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:
BS/BA in related technical field with 1 year quality and/or production experience; OR AA/AS degree in related technical field with 2 years quality and/or production experience; OR 3 years of relevant quality and/or production experience.
REQUIRED LEVEL OF EXPERIENCES:
Ability to communicate effectively and to deliver training.
Knowledge of environmental regulations related to fiber and UD production activities.
Advanced problem solving / troubleshooting skills.
Ability to drive improvements in production lead times and to minimize rejected material.
