Position Purpose: We have an immediate opening for a Mechanical Technician Intern to join our team in Westbrook, Maine. This is paid internship, compensation will be $20- $22 per hour.
Start times would be as early as 6am.
The intern will work at least 10 hours during the school year and will be expected to work up to 40 hours during summer. Interns may start during the spring semester of 2024 and during the summer break.
The primary responsibilities include:
Mechanical Technician Job Duties:
- Process raw extrusion into standard and custom components.
- Properly use milling machines, cut-off saws, drilling, and tapping machines.
- Mechanical assembly of standard and customized transport, tables, stock jobs, and guarding assemblies.
- Properly use the table saw router, magnetic drill, transfer punches, and hand drill.
- Mechanical assembly of transport pallet fixtures.
- Proper use of hand arbor press and hand tools for assembly.
- Assist Mechanical Technicians as necessary to assemble stations, modules, and system-level transport conveyor systems.
- Assist in troubleshooting automation systems.
- Provide feedback and possible design solutions to the team.
- Perform preliminary alignments of station tooling, which a team member or Supervisor will verify.
- Assist Electrical Technicians 1 & 2 as necessary to assemble station controls.
- Perform alterations of control enclosures.
- Assist Standards Supervisor in preparing equipment for packaging and shipment to customer’s facility.
- Perform field service work as required for installation assistance of equipment at the customer’s facility.
- Assist with system-level runoffs as needed (i.e., perform manual operator tasks).
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
- Maintain MQPs in accordance with ISO / Work Instruction procedures, including completion of requirements within the Assembly Verification section.
- Incorporate 5S and Waste Reduction practices in the area (“LEAN Manufacturing”).
- Abide by all Lanco safety procedures and cooperate with the Safety Coordinator to maintain safety compliance.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a mechanical or electrical engineering program.
- Experience with the use of hand and power tools
- Demonstrated machining skills and experience (i.e., mill, lathe, grinder) is a plus.
- Familiar with reading assembly and component drawings (“blueprints”), engineering processes, and documentation.
