Position Purpose:
Assure the quality elements of new product/processes are addressed at the earliest phases of new product development so that the product/process has a positive impact on plant metrics (such as Cpk, Customer PPM, Scrap, First Pass Yield, Productivity) at launch. Works with Purchasing Commodity Manager to assure high supplier quality. Responsible for the activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for processing materials into partially finished or finished assemblies or components.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist manufacturing in start-up of new processes MPAPs as well as necessary MPAP's associated with equipment moves.
2. Demonstrate understanding of APQP documentation, revisions, and necessary follow up.
3. Support and demonstrate understanding of the importance and significance of timely yet accurate updates for process changes.
4. Demonstrate effective team skills through participation and facilitation in team activities.
5. Provide direction for immediate containment actions for reported issues and assist QA and Production department with containment efforts. Initiate immediate and effective necessary containment and the corresponding Quality Alerts for communicating quality issues to Shop floor.
6. Perform effective QMS audits as a trained and experienced lead auditor. Conduct audits of the Quality Management System elements per established procedures and report audit results to quality management.
7. Assist management in implementing/improving quality systems elements.
8. Ensure document control system is maintained per established procedures. Advise management on potential quality system issues and recommend improvements to the quality system. Document quality work instructions as directed.
9. Champion assigned Continuous Improvement Activities for areas of responsibility.
10. Track and report scrap, rework, appraisal (Internal costs), Prevention costs, and External Costs of Poor Quality.
11. Champion CC/OFI (customer concern) timely corrective action responses with appropriate cross-functional team. Maintain documentation of meetings, corrective action responses, and evidence of follow up.
12. Maintain documentation of inspection documents and report results to management.
13. Advise quality and manufacturing engineering on potential quality issues.
14. Assist in production training as directed by management.
15. Create, maintain, and update document control records.
16. Make use of measuring equipment as needed for assigned tasks. Maintain gages and measuring equipment. Support current calibration systems per established procedures. Recommend repair, replacement or upgrade of gages and measuring equipment to management.
17. Assist production in the use, maintenance, availability and training for assigned measuring equipment and gages. Coordinate and assist with equipment installation and start up and purchase of measuring and testing devices.
18. Work to improve the quality and statistical elements of new product development/launch teams, continual improvement teams, problem solving teams, or other teams as appropriate.
19. Assist management representative with the maintenance and continual improvement of our Quality Management System key processes. This includes identifying and implementing process improvements.
20. Monitor results-based quality metrics-identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
21. Lead and manage all supplier quality related actions such as corrective actions, quality continuous improvement, audit etc.
22. Participate and represent the plant in IATF 16949-2016 external audit. Provide timely responses and close out all identified non-conformances

Education and Training
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other related technical degree program required.
• Desired experienced ASQ CQE preferred.
• Desired Lean 6 Sigma Green Belt certification/training preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must have 3-5 years of quality, engineering, or manufacturing experience.
• Light manual assembly, automation, and/or machining experience preferred
• Familiar with the use of gages (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
• Understand and interpret GD&T engineering drawings
• Ability to understand MSA studies; process capability, perform studies, and conduct gage R & R studies
• Familiar with use of SPC
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products and highly proficient with Excel.
• Effective communication skills
• Assertive, self-confident, and detail-oriented
• Strong teamwork skills
• Experience in training others
Physical Demands
  • Frequent sitting, work at computer for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing to travel moderately
  • Occasional driving, grasping, and pinching
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
  • Lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Carry up to 10 lbs. approximately 25 feet
  • Push/Pull 10 lbs. of force 5 feet
