Quality Control Manager
Summary/Purpose of Position:
Microbial Discovery Group is a Bacillus fermentation company focused on the commercialization of microbials for partners within wastewater, bioremediation, aquaculture, consumer, probiotic and institutional markets while additionally partnering with customers to fulfill their custom fermentation needs. The QC Manager will manage the day-to-day activities in the Quality Control Department.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Manages employees and activities in the Quality Control Department.
- Makes final decisions involving product status and coach others in the interpretations of results.
- Determines laboratory and food safety strategy to align with plant and company goals and objectives for product safety and quality with senior management.
- Provide leadership and support to multiple employees in a positive and encouraging manner to motivate the team and drive, energy and enthusiasm.
- Determine and track training and/or mentoring to develop QC personnel needs.
- Lead in carrying out the operational requirements that result from policies, procedures, regulations, and guidance governing food safety and worker safety.
- Assist the Primary PCQI with in-depth evaluation of food safety performance, utilizing (as appropriate) metrics, visual tools, trending tools and statistical analysis for purposes of driving continuous improvement in Operations and food safety performance.
- Ensure all SOPs are in place and up to date for all QC operations.
- Be a main point of contact to support manufacturing.
- Attend internal and client facing meetings to provide technical feedback and support planning activities.
- Ensure the team is functionally cohesively and maintaining good working relationships with all other departments and team members.
- HACCP and PCQI certified (food & feed), is the secondary food safety contact to the Primary PCQI.
- Challenge results and drive improvements.
- Lead Quality Control and food safety compliance audits in the absence of Primary PCQI.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience
- 4+ years managing direct reports
- Preferred experience within Food, Biotechnology, Dairy Cultures, etc. industries
Typical Work Environment:
- This position requires working in both an office and a laboratory setting.
- Some job responsibilities require using caustics, high-pressure laboratory systems, biological materials, and toxic chemicals.
