Job description

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for the management, development, control, and oversight of a team of Quality Assurance professionals. This position works closely with members of the Information Technology team and performs both a leadership and management function.  The Quality Assurance Manager is expected to carry out their duties and responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with EquiTrust’s Company Values of Integrity, Leadership, Accountability, Teamwork, and Passion.

The Quality Assurance Manager manages a team of analysts responsible for gathering and analyzing requirements for testing system development and improvements.  This position is responsible for allocating team resources and monitoring deliverables to ensure business needs are met successfully and in a timely fashion.  This position will coordinate with other teams to build requirements, test plans, and ensure project milestones and goals are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees, including but not limited to the following activities: makes recommendations for hiring, termination, promotions, and transfers, assessing and completing performance appraisals, responsibility allocations, and task completion, problem identification and resolution, and other day-to-day people management and leadership responsibilities.
  • Coaches and develops staff to maximize individual performance, build future organizational leadership, enhance teamwork, and strengthen support of the organization’s values, tactics, and strategies.
  • Develops training programs and associated training and process documents. Review training materials on a regular basis to ensure continued alignment with departmental and industry best practices.
  • Defines, plans, and executes manual and automated testing based on tasks assigned.
  • Determines test objectives and coordinates testing with other Quality Assurance staff.
  • Assists the business with defining and organizing acceptance testing.
  • Maintains and reports the status of testing in daily scrums.
  • Documents Quality Assurance activities for audit reviews.
  • Makes recommendations and assists in implementing improvements to testing processes and workflows.
  • Establishes testing processes, analyzes existing processes, and makes recommendations for identified improvements.
  • Monitors the testing lifecycle of projects and updates shareholders on progress to ensure business needs are met successfully and in a timely fashion.
  • Assists IT team in identifying all limitations in business and technical processes.
  • Maintains appropriate knowledge of various business units to better understand, identify, and scope project and system requests.
  • Assists with project execution by providing input to test and implementation plans.
  • Assists as needed on projects in analyzing functional requirements, testing all requirements, and documenting processes.
  • Supports the Information Technology team and other departments on an as-needed basis.
  • Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and evaluate end-user impact and other risk factors related to processes and systems.
  • Proven ability to understand the nuances of individual projects and interpret how these components affect the overall business strategy.
  • Balanced business and technical background.
  • Ability to provide leadership to QA analysts and collaborate with business leaders and project managers in developing strategies and solutions of high business value.
  • Very effective interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of business needs with the ability to establish/maintain high level of customer trust and confidence.
  • Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the “big picture” view.
  • Advanced skills in Jira, Microsoft Project, Visio, and all Office Tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with both business and IT individuals at all levels across the organization.

    Training or Work Experience:

    • If Bachelor’s Degree, minimum 8 years of Quality Assurance experience required.
    • If Associates Degree, minimum 10 years of Quality Assurance experience required.
    • If High School Diploma, minimum 12 years of Quality Assurance experience required.

      Education:

      • High School Diploma or equivalent required
      • Associate’s Degree – Computer Science or a related field of study preferred.
      • Bachelor’s Degree – Computer Science or a related field of study preferred.

      Working Conditions:

      • Business Travel: Infrequent travel (less than 5% of the time).
