Position Summary  
 
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Food Technologist - Quality Systems Specialist will provide leadership to develop, implement, maintain, train, and proactively improve quality compliance programs, methods and systems to assure internal and supplier quality compliance. The Food Technologist - Quality Systems Specialist will be involved in training associates, conducting internal audits. This role has matrix reporting to the ofi-Olde Thompson Sr. Technical Manager. 
 
The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, influence, negotiate, motivate, and lead matrix team. The individual will display and promote passion for Quality and Food Safety and the ability to work with various geographies of ofi -Spices.  
 
Position Responsibilities 
 
  • Ensure all processes follow Internal Quality Systems Compliance and oversee document control.
  • Responsible for maintaining Change Control Management.
  • Responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance of mandatory regulations such as Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and Supplier Verification Program (SVP).
  • Maintain the Quality digital sites and keep the documents current.
  • Keep current on changing regulatory landscape for ingredients, additives, and packaging regulations.
  • Participate in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, and Quality Management System audits and monitor corrective actions to deficient findings for completion and effectiveness, providing gap closure assistance to the manufacturing facilities.
  • Participate in Oxnard’s Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Food Safety team for product designs, manufacturing processes, Food Safety plans, environmental monitoring and pest control programs, finished product microbiological testing programs, allergen program, and sanitation programs.
  • Validate and assure compliance with established Food Safety and quality objectives through daily monitoring programs, team supervision, and on-going verification of internal and external laboratory or industry benchmarking.
  • Responsible and accountable for Product Hold & Disposition based on Quality Inspection results and data analysis and based on risk assessment and business value analysis. Implement appropriate Corrective Action and Preventative Action (CAPA) as needed.
  • Develop and implement training programs for Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) team and frontline workforce with emphasis on continuous improvement and measure effectiveness of training programs.
  • Establish new and improved quality/Food Safety programs, policies and procedures to ensure that established standards of quality are consistently achieved, measured, documented and maintained. Provide Food Safety risk assessment information, new technology information, and risk management strategies.
  • Lead Root Cause analysis and develop corrective actions for customer complaints and implement the corrective actions working with all the relevant functional teams.
  • Work with Sr. Technical Manager to ensure all suppliers provide required documentation like specifications, claims certificates, HACCP/Hazard Analysis and Risk Based Preventative Controls (HARPC) flow charts, that are listed in Supplier Quality Manual.
  • Work with Sr. Technical Manager to analyze supplier-provided documents, and initiate alerts and corrective action requests where appropriate.
  • Responsible for making sure products supplied meet the specification and expectations of customers.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Organic, Kosher, Halal certifications for products manufactured by the Oxnard plant per the requirement of the customers and central Quality Assurance (QA) team.
  • Provide data, resources & participate in continuous improvement initiatives as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor the performance of the supplier by tracking the number of quality failure events, such as product defects, delivery failures and track the cost of poor quality of each supplier. Maintain Supplier Quality Score Card and perform periodical review with supplier.  
  • Conduct internal site audits.
Position Requirements  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, or related field is required. 
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance & Manufacturing in Food Industry is required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred.
  • HACCP certified and/or Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certified is required.
  • Knowledge about Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), SQF, is preferred.
  • Experience in operating with SAP enterprise business system is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to work with multiple cross functional teams and geographies as well as with internal and external customers is required.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with department, company or customer associates and experience in a team-oriented environment is required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and visit the origins, suppliers, and ofi-Spices facilities up to 10% is required.
 
The pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $69,000 - $89,000 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within this range may be determined based on candidate’s experience, qualifications and/or other determining factors.
