The QSP Modeling Scientist will lead the mathematical representation of core areas within the DILIsym Services areas of expertise, some core areas include mitochondrial dysfunction, bile acid transport, immune response/cell death, biomarkers, pharmacokinetics, lipotoxicity, NAFLD and NASH, IPF, and kidney injury.

Location: This position can be 100% remote or hybrid near one of our locations (Buffalo, NY; Durham, NC; Lancaster, CA; or Pittsburgh, PA)
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, write, test, and use computer code to build and maintain the sub-model(s) related to a given core area (e.g. DILIsym, NAFLDsym, IPFsym, RENAsym, RADAsym)
- Represent compounds and drugs in DILIsym, including translating laboratory data into model parameters
- Contribute to the activities required for successful completion of all goals, including those of the various development efforts and the DILI-sim Initiative consortium
- Combine technical and project management work, including components such as systems pharmacology modeling, software code development, and maintenance in MATLAB or other designated software environments
- Develop plans to complete all tasks and provide all deliverables within a time frame consistent with the services agreement signed with the sponsor
- Schedule the necessary meetings including internal and external collaborators
- Travel to sponsor locations to participate in key milestone meetings as required
- Exerts leadership in the area of report and presentation preparation, which are critical final deliverables for all projects
- Manage and participate in preparation and review of all joint manuscripts between the DILIsym Services and the sponsor
- Ensure the effort expended for a given project remains consistent with the resources allocated for the project per the signed contract
- Publish work in scientific journals, with minimal review required by their supervisor, including documentation preparation, text development, figure development, and correspondence with editors and peer reviewers
- Oversee and supervise the technical work of others and mentor less experienced scientists
- Train others on QSP/QST and the various DSS platforms
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of QSP/QST modeling experience
- Proficiency in mathematics
- General knowledge of biology, biochemistry, lipid biochemistry, immunology,
- and/or toxicology
- Experience with Julia, MATLAB, GastroPlus™, DILIsym, C++ programming
- PK modeling, PKPD modeling, and systems pharmacology modeling
- Understand development process and how to apply modeling and simulation for maximum impact
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Maintain a positive attitude while interacting with colleagues and clients
- Must be able to multitask and have good organizational skills
- Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision
- Minimal travel required up to 10%
Education:
- Masters in pharmaceutical science, biomedical engineering, or related life sciences field
- PhD in pharmaceutical science, biomedical engineering, or related life sciences field preferred
