Position Snapshot: The QC Technician is responsible for the implementation and execution of the Quality Control program. This position will inspect, test, sort, sample, and/or weigh raw materials or processed, machined, fabricated, or assembled products for defects. It will use precision measuring instruments and complex test equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Conduct and document Pre- and Post-Pour Inspections of precast products.
• Conduct and document Final Inspection of product before delivery. Reconcile final inspection documentation for shipments.
• Test and document fresh concrete in accordance with industry standards.
• Test and document hardened concrete in accordance with industry standards.
• Monitor and arrange for timely calibration and maintenance of QC gauges, scales, machines and other equipment.
• Generate spreadsheets for data collection.
• Interact with government and industry inspectors as needed.
• Monitor quality of, and test conformance to, standards of incoming raw materials.
• Prepare for industry certification inspections (i.e. NPCA Plant Certification).
• Oversee and direct operations of Batch Plant.
• Conduct periodic plant Quality Control meetings and Tool Box Safety Talks.
• All other duties as assigned by Plant Manager and/or CP&P Quality Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience in Quality Control function in concrete manufacturing environment is preferred, but willing to consider body of work experience.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment to assure delivery requirements.
• Clear oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Ability to follow documented procedures and standards.
• Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Knowledge of concrete batching design.
• Ability to frequently lift heavy objects.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, weighing and testing equipment.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• VDOT Hydraulic Cement Concrete Plant Technician certification, or willingness to be trained for and achieve certification.
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1 certification, or willingness to be trained for and achieve certification.
• NPCA PQS I certification, or willingness to be trained for and achieve certification.
Requirements:
• Must reside in the continental U.S. (Harrisonburg, VA area). No relocation assistance is provided.
• Must have a valid driving license.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.
Typical Schedule: Work is generally performed Monday-Friday, 40+ hours per week depending on workload and production demands. Overtime and weekend work will be required during heavy production periods.
Typical Physical Demands: Physical agility and may require any or all of the following: standing, sitting, walking, climbing, reaching, bending/stooping, lifting (50lbs. max), pushing/pulling (50lbs. max).
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a production environment, with ambient weather/air conditions, loud noise, dangerous equipment, and variable lighting. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in all production areas.
Compensation: Based on proven work experience and industry knowledge.
