Job description

The QA Inspection Technician takes a proactive approach to assist management in the prevention of problems or correction of process deficiencies. Ensure products meet established quality standards and industry benchmarks. Propose measures and process improvements to enhance operations, ensure reliability of systems, and minimize downtime, errors, and defects. Responsible for generating and implementing quality assurance standards, conducting quality inspections, identifying production problems, and recommending solutions. Develop and implement strategies to meet production targets and optimizing costs to improve margins.
Responsibilities
Level 1:

  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Inspects in-process parts and sub-assemblies according to design requirements.
  • Performs practical tests, measurements, and calculations to verify conformity,
  • Prepares quality communications using computer-based systems, paper, or other means.
  • Effectively communicate actions for product quality related concerns with various personnel.
  • Maintain tracking of assembly floor and ship loose production for QA process/product audits
  • Perform Product Quality Audits (Final & Ship Loose Audits)
  • Create NRs, perform NR investigations and containments.
  • Label nonconforming product, move electronically and physically per the procedure,
  • Perform ERP transactions into and out of QA warehouses as needed.
  • Monitor nonconformance reports and drive timely dispositions.
  • Control, count, and reduce inventory in area of responsibility, escalate issues as needed.
  • Perform Inventory Adjustments for scrap.
  • Inspect reworked product for acceptance.
  • Obtain Machine Card records for truck documentation.
  • Other duties are performed as assigned by the Supervisor.

Level 2: Meet all the requirements of Level 1, plus:
  • Perform Technical Product Quality Audits according to audit plan (Fastener and Fitting Audits, Torque Audits, Other Technical Functional Audits, etc.)
  • Perform assigned PAR, FIR and Engineering investigations and containments.
  • Assists with Layer Process Audits with Quality Management Group.
  • Inspect and approve rework related to Engineering Changes.
  • Collect and summarize data for technical issues and projects.
  • Coordinates with various departments on PAR and FIR related rework actions taken on nonconforming products.
  • Coordinates rework actions of PAR and FIR nonconforming product with appropriate departments.
  • Organize documented evidence and specifications from LME systems for technical investigation and reporting of nonconforming products or QMS failures.
  • Develop and manage inspection and testing records of material or product status.
  • Communicate major Quality Management System (QMS) and nonconforming product issues to Management.
  • Collect and review documents for conformance and completeness, file appropriately.
  • Operate within all Quality Assurance databases and systems.
  • Create basic technical reports including data analysis with Product Engineering assistance.
  • Understand and implement 5S, and visual workplace tools.

Level 3: Meet all the requirements of Level 2, plus:
  • Develop additional Technical Product Quality Audits as required.
  • Create technical reports on product and process issues derived from PAR's/FIR's analysis and provide potential solutions.
  • Maintain and operate within all Quality Assurance databases and systems.
  • Develop inspection plans and acceptance criteria related to PAR and FIR technical issue resolution.
  • Understand LME Engineering Drawings, conventional and geometric tolerancing, design intent, manufacturability, material properties, and LME standards.
  • Use CAD models for geometric technical analysis.
  • Create technical reports using RCA and generate data analysis.
  • Participate in development and selection of measurements and test equipment for inprocess and final product verification.
  • Participate in Measure Systems Analysis (MSA) of test and measurements systems for analysis of reproducibility and repeatability capability.
  • Understand and implement LEAN, Kaizen, and Poke Yoke.
  • Initiates Quality Systems improvements as directed by management.

Level 4 (Senior): Meet all the requirements of Level 3, plus:
  • Ability to manage and direct activities of Quality Inspectors.
  • Ability to analyze LME Engineering drawings for function and determine discrepancies for direct discussion with engineering team.
  • Proficient with CAD models and Geometric Design and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Develop technical drawings and documentation for inspection fixturing and test equipment.
  • Create and interpret process flow charts and process models (Value Stream?)
  • Plan and facilitate small to intermediate technical projects and teams.
  • Ability to read, interpret and use Engineering Standards commonly used at LME (e.g., ISO,
  • ANSI, ASTM, IEEE etc.) for investigations and discussions with engineering members.
  • Responsible for development and selection of measurements and test equipment for inprocess and final product verification.
  • Responsible for development of studies for assessment of measurements and test systems reproducibility and repeatability capability.
  • Proposes, plans, and initiates quality systems improvements independently.
  • Ability to obtain Six Sigma Green belt certification.
Competencies
Education and Experience:
  • Level 1: High School diploma or equivalent. One to three years' experience of basic inspections and/or manufacturing inspections.
  • Level 2: High School diploma or equivalent. Three to four years' experience of quality assurance inspections and/or manufacturing inspections.
  • Level 3: High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum four years' experience of quality assurance inspections and/or manufacturing inspections; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 4 (Senior): High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum six years' experience of quality assurance inspections and/or manufacturing inspections; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Level 1:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to carry-out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledge of MS Office software; SharePoint; Internet software.
  • Ability to use basic measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures.
  • Perform basic arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry.

Level 2:
  • Ability to operate all hand and basic power tools at LME.
  • Ability to use electrical testing tools and equipment.
  • Ability to apply basic concepts of GD&T symbology and definition related to angles, cylinders, planes profiles etc.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as specifications, drawings, and procedures.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.

Level 3:
  • Ability to independently prioritize job duties, as necessary.
  • Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to understand the basics of fabrication, welding, mechanics, hydraulics, electronics, and raw materials.
  • Ability to use and create templates for iAuditor.
  • Ability to create and/or manipulate Adobe PDF documents.
  • Ability to use Creo View and all its functions.

Level 4 (Senior):
  • Ability to use all types of inspection equipment and precision measurement devices.
  • Ability to select correct measuring or testing device according to stated requirements.
  • Ability to be an active participant in the ship release program.
  • Ability to use and design in Creo CAD software.
  • Ability to create technical instructions.
  • Ability to lead projects and groups for resolution of issues.

Additional Requirements:
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time, staying up to 4 weeks per trip, if necessary.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
