The role of Purchasing Agent ensures that the organization acquires goods, materials, and services necessary for its operations at the best possible price and quality.
Essential Responsibilities
· Identify and evaluate potential vendors and suppliers and establish strong relationships to negotiate favorable terms and pricing agreements.
· Verify product availability from vendor and ability to meet order deadline.
· Create “new” items in database that have not been previously purchased.
· Prepare and process purchase requisitions for orders by verifying specifications and budgetary pricing.
· Negotiate pricing and terms with vendors to secure advantageous agreements.
· Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness. Implement strategies to streamline purchasing processes and reduce expenses.
· Track the status of orders and verify that orders have been received “on-time.”
· Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies in all procurement activities.
· Evaluate supplier performance and product quality to ensure adherence to specified standards.
· Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and procurement activities.
· Manage “Part Sale” orders direct from customers.
· Identify opportunities for improvements to the current procurement processes that will improve vendor relationships and lower the cost of doing business.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
· Must possess strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
· Must possess strong organizational skills.
· Proven experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management.
· Must possess strong negotiation skills and ability to build effective relationships with suppliers.
· Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
· Ability to receive, track and distribute materials, supplies, and equipment.
· Must be flexible to work additional hours, when needed.
· Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
Qualification/Requirements
High School Diploma Required.
