Function
The purpose of the class is to provide professional-level services for development of policies and guidelines relating to Plant Engineering, environmental compliance and management, and employee and plant safety. The class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Minimum Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Five (5) years of full-time experience.
- Two (2) years full-time equivalent experience at the professional level to include knowledge of regulatory requirements.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in the State of Virginia or must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred.
- Must have a Virginia certification for Waste Management Facility Operator Class IV or obtain within 90 days of employment.
- May require shift work to include nights, weekends, holidays and on-call emergency standby on a rotating basis.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Must successfully pass medical testing to include controlled substances in accordance with the current City of Hampton’s substance abuse policy.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
