The HHC Neighborhood Health program began in 2021 with the vision of bringing healthcare to all in need. Currently, these sites include soup kitchens, shelters, congregate housing and apartment complexes and senior centers. The program is currently a "bricks and mortar" operation necessitating the set up and breakdown of the equipment and supplies necessary to operate the clinics within designated sites. The future of NBHC plans to offer more direct street medicine with teams both on foot and using outreach vehicles to meet people where they are in tents, encampments, on doorsteps, etc.
The Neighborhood Health Public Safety Officer provides professional safety and security services to ensure a safe environment for the Neighborhood Health clinics, the team and the community. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:
- Monitors clinic site and/or community outreach to identify suspicious activity, behavior, safety concerns and mitigates risks.
- Assists Medical Staff as requested (combative patients, unruly patients, stand-by and controlling a situation).
- Immersed in the community engaging with people in their neighborhoods
- Assist with breaking down stigmas by promoting positive dialogue between people experiencing homelessness and psychosocial issues and the medical community.
- Provides a timely response and takes appropriate actions to potential/actual security threats.
- Prepares detailed reports of all incidents and security issues.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid State of Connecticut Security Guard Card.
- Valid CT Driver's License.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a police officer, corrections officer or relevant security officer work required
- Extensive course work in criminal justice or related field may be substituted for work experience.
- Excellent customer service skills are required.
