Here’s what the Public Relations Manager is up to on a daily basis:


CLIENT RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Proactively managing client relationships, serving as an extension of their team and a trusted advisor on all communications and digital marketing needs
  • Educating and coaching clients on best practices, how new services and technology can be beneficial and how to best integrate services into the client’s organization to measure and increase results
  • Supporting crisis management as needed, including responding to and participating in client and media management outside of business hours, as needed
  • Continually seeking opportunities to better serve new and existing clients through client retention and renewals

STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT AND MEASURABLE RESULTS

  • In close partnership with the VP of Strategy and Development, Brand Managers and Project Managers, developing strategic and integrated Public Relations into the client’s overall business strategy
  • Ensuring day-to-day execution of services is aligned with stated objectives and all client deliverables meet brand tone, voice, creative strategy and messaging guidelines.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for our internal team by having a clear understanding of the client’s business, industry and competitive landscape to determine the best strategy and tactics based on the client’s services
  • Actively monitoring account activities, ensuring Koch Comm is being a good steward of client resources and providing regular reporting on results for clients, including rotating social media monitoring and engaging shifts during evenings and weekends
  • Working in partnership with the Project Manager to ensure promised deliverables are executed on time, in scope, within budget and jobs are profitable

PUBLIC RELATIONS SERVICES AND EXECUTION

  • Developing and executing best practice Public Relations strategies, monitoring and reporting analytics, Public Relations and media industry trends, and integrating into clients’ overall strategies

  • Developing comprehensive communications plans including strategy, goals, budget and tactics for client accounts
  • Leveraging existing media relationships and cultivating new contacts within business and industry media
  • Managing media inquiries and interview requests
  • Creating content for news releases, byline articles, keynote presentations, opinion editorials, talking points, surveys, media statements, internal communications messaging and other content as directed by the client’s overarching communications strategy
  • Developing clients’ media relations strategies, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
  • Assisting in the development of PR training materials to continue building the team’s collective knowledge and skills in PR principles and best practices, as needed
  • Monitoring, analyzing and communicating PR results on an ongoing basis, using media monitoring tools as well as additional available resources
  • Evaluating clients’ opportunities for partnerships that increase positive public awareness and/or drive additional media opportunities
  • Maintaining a keen understanding of industry trends affecting clients and making appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them

  • Performing other related duties as assigned, including special projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of English usage, including grammar and composition; of Public Relations principles, strategies, industry best practices; of research techniques and statistical gathering of information; of accepted styles for materials released to media (including Associated Press format)
  • Intermediate skill level with personal computer using Microsoft Office Suite as well as basic knowledge and skills regarding social media and its integration with Public Relations
  • Proven track record designing and executing successful Public Relations and media relations campaigns at both local and national level
  • Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets
  • Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in media interviewing and public speaking

A GREAT fit for the Public Relations Manager position also has:

  • Crisis communications experience

  • Experience using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, YouTube and Instagram, plus, experience with social media tools and techniques on a business level
  • Ability to understand key metrics, KPIs and ROAS analysis as well as review analytics to provide documented insights and recommendations
  • Knowledge and experience with various tools used to execute digital marketing and Public Relations initiatives
  • Fundamental knowledge of SEO, paid media, and inbound marketing
  • Experience in project management and using project management tools and software
