Description
The Public Information Officer will oversee and manage the organization's external communications and media relations, building, maintaining, and preserving a positive public image for the organization. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Chief of Staff/Support Services, and considerable independent judgment, discretion, and initiative are exercised in carrying out daily activities.
Examples of Duties
1. Manages media relations for the organization, which may include organizing press conferences.
2. Acts as the organization's spokesperson and responds to members of the media in a timely manner; composes, reviews, and /or distributes press releases.
3. Reviews and approves or facilitates review and approval process for public communications regarding the organization.
4. Oversees external, public-facing communication and branding in various online and print platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and industry magazines.
5. Oversees or collaborates with other teams in the development and maintenance of the Organization's website.
6. Produces, edits, and distributes print, photographic and video materials for internal and public distribution.
7. Collaborates with executive leadership, and/or other stakeholders to develop a Public Information strategy and guidelines for the organization.
8. Assists executive leadership in developing presentations, speeches, and other important public messages.
9. Schedules and plans special events that are open ot the public.
10. Serves as the representative for the organization's public events hosted by local charities or civic organizations.
11. Oversees and schedules tours, open houses, or similar exhibitions of the organization's offices and facilities.
12. Develops and maintains professional relationships with members of the media.
13. Develops, implements, and adheres to the communications budget.
14. Maintains/updates crisis communication plan, media policy and social media policy.
15. Represents the City/provides support in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during activation.
16. Attends annual EOC training as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or closely related field; Five (5) years' experience in public relations, communications, or related field required, with supervisory experience preferred.
Required Licenses/Certificates:
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under immediate supervision, performs GENERAL ASSIGNMENTS of work with PERIODIC CHECK of performance by supervisor.

VERY CLOSE; Operations requiring very close and continuous attention for control of operations which require a high degree of coordination or immediate response.

ACCURACY
Probably errors would normally not be detected in succeeding operations and could possibly affect organization-patron relationship, involve re-work, or additional expenditures in order to properly resolve the error.

Regular contacts with patrons initiated by the employee. Involves furnishing and obtaining information and, attempting to influence the decisions of those contacted. Failure to exercise proper judgment may result in important losses to the organization.

Contact with other departments or offices and also frequently with individuals in middle level positions; consulting on problems that necessitate judgment and tact, plus frequent contact with senior level internal officials.
