POSITION SUMMARY
The position of Public Health Nurse III/Vaccine Program Manager provides clinic and Public
Health Services requiring a high degree of skill, competency, and accuracy of documentation.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Completes monthly reporting of vaccine accountability, ordering, and reconciling.
- Maintains an inventory of the various drugs and supplies required for use; responsible for ordering and tracking all vaccine.
- Monitors pricing of vaccine and medications. Notifies Clinic Manager of changes. Completes
Purchase orders accurately and distributes for appropriate signatures before sending to finance department.
- Provides quality assurance of immunization dispensing and vaccine usage. Reports to Clinic
Manager any concerns.
- Maintains an awareness of current immunizations, to include proper sites and dosages, assuring that she/he remains current with best practices and studies.
- Communicates with staff regarding immunization changes and new products and procedures as needed.
- Develops new forms and improves existing materials for immunizations as needed.
- Maintains an awareness regarding the various elements associated with family planning, assuring that she/he remains current with best practices and studies.
- Attends continuing education trainings and reads appropriate medical journals/magazines to remain current in knowledge base.
- Schedules and plans offsite clinics (Flu, Back to School, TB, and etc.) with clinic manager approval.
- Assists with community presentations and health fairs, as needed and requested by clinic manager.
- Train new staff and monitor progress and completion of orientation checklist.
- Completes a preliminary history, gathers samples/specimens for lab testing, and assuring that proper protocols are followed.
- Administers medications, completes documentation with accuracy and timeliness.
- Provides consultation to school nurses, clients, and other agencies as needed. Serves on school health advisory committees and immunization coalitions. Answers questions, provides clarification and assures a high standard of professionalism. Monitors standing orders and vaccine information and reports to clinic manager any changes.
- Assists with disease outbreak investigations as needed and may serve on the Department's
Epidemiology Team and/or the Department's Worksite Wellness & Safety Committee.
- Develops client education plan per individual client. Conducts and provides client education.
- Monitors, collects samples, cultures and other specimens for distribution to lab in compliance with proper protocol with accuracy and timeliness. Completes documentation and maintains confidentiality.
- Advises clients of lab results and other follow-up as needed, with accuracy and timeliness.
- Schedules and administers pregnancy tests and makes referrals as necessary. Addresses concerns and issues, both in person and by telephone, with professionalism, accuracy and timeliness.
- Manages and addresses follow-up client needs, assuring compliance.
- Refers clients to appropriate provider as needed.
- Provides appropriate screenings as requested by client per clinic protocol.
- Provides education to client regarding screening results in accordance with current guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- This position will utilize up to 3 days of office time per week to monitor vaccine inventory and storage, setting up off-sites, and triage phone calls. The remainder of the time will be utilized in clinic.
- All employees of the Platte County Health Department are required to respond to any declared Public Health emergency in Platte County, to include but not limited to staffing mass vaccination or prophylaxis sites. All employees must be reachable by phone during a Public Health emergency and respond in a timely manner to the Platte County Health
Department when required.
- All employees of the Platte County Health Department are required to adhere to the dictates of the Personnel Policy Manual, to include punctuality, attendance, and proper submission of all forms. SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Public Health Nurse OR
An Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and four years of experience as a Registered Nurse OR a Diploma in Nursing and three years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse.
Experience: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years of experience as a Public Health Nurse if in possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university; OR four years or more of experience as a Public Health Nurse if in possession of an Associate's degree; OR three years of experience as a Public
Health Nurse if in possession of a Diploma in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
Computer Skills: Intermediate in Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Certifications & Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the
Licenses: State of Missouri.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Must be able to write and speak clearly. Language skills should be commensurate with education requirements
