ROLE SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Public Health Nurse III position supervises a staff of Public Health Nurses performing professional nursing activities in the community (Maternal Child Health Programming).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervises a team of Public Health Nurses and other professionals and paraprofessionals, including but not limited to approving time off, monitoring attendance, ensuring program compliance, providing training and coaching to team members, assessing and evaluating work performance, and implementing nursing standards and programs.
• Provides oversight of program implementation with partner organizations including hospitals and community-based organizations.
• Supervises the collection of comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and environmental histories, laboratory results and related data on clients and their families.
• Assesses health status of clients and assigns them to nursing staff based on complexity of health needs.
• Provides medical consultation to community providers as it relates to patient care and disease prevention.
• Recommend programs for targeted populations.
• Organizes and conducts interdisciplinary case conferences with clients, clients’ families, health providers and social service providers within the community.
• Reviews and evaluates nursing programs for quality assurance and sets criteria for providing client services; oversees the provision of education and instruction to individuals, families, and other groups in the areas of disease prevention, nutrition, childcare, and related health topics.
• Maintains privacy and quality control of clients’ case files.
• Works with community health and social services providers to plan, develop and implement standards for client care and to ensure clients have access to needed services.
• Supervises the orientation of new staff and students on departmental policies and nursing practices including coaching and check-ins.
• Conducts home visit fidelity checks to evaluate the application of model and adherence to established protocols.
• Identifies staff development needs and coordinates in-service training programs.
• Participates in the development of standards and procedures for Public Health nursing.
• Prepares management reports on nursing activities.
• Organizes collected data and performs basic analysis using Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel. Summarizes findings and contributes to reports and presentations.
• Conducts health education presentations to community groups.

*Some additional hours may be required in case of a Public Health emergency.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing or an approved foreign credential evaluation supplemented by two years of progressively responsible nursing experience. Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse. Applicants must possess a valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse license at the time of employment.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
• Previous experience supervising Nurses
• Bilingual English and Spanish
• Previous work experience conducting health assessments, providing patient education and referral connections
• Previous work experience conducting visits in client homes
• A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is preferred
