How you make a difference in this role
The qualified candidate will serve as the TDH Section Chief for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion the Division of Family Health and Wellness. This position will be responsible for overseeing multiple statewide programs and grant administration within the Chronic Disease Section. This position reports to the FHW Deputy Medical Director.
Job Overview
This classification is responsible for duties such as maintaining up-to-date records of budget and expenditures, completing time-sensitive contracts and payment of invoices, grant management, maintaining office property and records, and facilitating the accurate and timely completion of the procurement of services and goods. An employee in this classification may be responsible for developing and updating project plans, preparing monthly/quarterly/yearly reports, and collaborating effectively with staff on all fiscal, procurement, and grant/contract projects. Other responsibilities may include facilities management forms and records management, travel, timekeeping, meeting facilitation, and information technology and telecommunications request.
Key Responsibilities
Direct all functions of multiple statewide programs with an annual budget of approximately $12 million including the following programs: Cardiovascular Health Program, Diabetes Prevention and Control, Project Diabetes, Preventive Health and Health Services, Rape Prevention Education, School Health, and Tobacco Prevention and Control Program. Oversee grant administration tasks for 5 federal grants and assist program directors in the development of grant applications, progress reports, work plans, budgets, and evaluation plans. Directly supervise 4 employees, with overall responsibility for 19 employees. Provide guidance and ensure all tasks are on track to be completed by the deadlines. Support development and retention of staff in the Chronic Disease section. Assist program directors with strategic planning by monitoring program outcomes and data trends to determine any needed modifications to program activities and goals. Apply for new grant opportunities as directed by Division Director and Deputy Medical Director. Collaborate with local, regional, state, and federal partners to implement and expand innovative initiatives across the state. Engage in FHW senior leadership team, through weekly senior leadership meetings, bi-annual retreats. Provide regular updates with the Deputy Director. Ability to work remotely and in the Nashville, TN office.
Required Experience
Substantial experience of increasingly responsible professional health program work, including at least four years of full-time supervisory work, two years of statewide program oversite, and two years of grant writing experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience differ for this executive service classification based on the needs of the department. This might include a Bachelor's degree in a health or science field, a Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Health Administration or Health Planning, experience with statewide leadership or directing all functions of a PUBLIC HEALTH program as a whole.
