Public Benefits Coordinator

MAFS is a Not-for-Profit organization that aims to serve immigrant populations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe.MAFS is now a large family-run organization that has been helping the community for over 30 years. The perceptive employee would need to have experience with that or have experience wearing multiple hats. In addition, the perceptive employee should be able to work autonomously, be a self-starter, and have initiative and lots of follow-through.
Job Title and Definition: Public Benefits Coordinator who serves as the primary point of contact for clients receiving Public Benefits and is responsible for managing an assigned workload.
Primary responsibilities:

• Interviewing, assessment, and investigation skills to determine eligibility and/or on-going maintenance of continuing eligibility, and case actions for Public Benefits and social services- Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SSI, SNAP, and others.
• Knowledge of Public Benefits/ assistance laws, rules, regulations and public benefit application process including, requirements, approvals, appeals and renewals.
• Explains program requirements and services available and able to manage and maintain a caseload independently.
• Convey interest and concern to callers requesting information or assistance with problems related to the program. Work with clients in crisis.
• Works within timeframes and deadlines to submit accurate billing and other reports as dictated by program requirements.
• Actively participates in outreach activities to increase program participants and travels as necessary between program sites and with clients to various public benefit offices as required.
• Actively participate in team meetings; regular performance reviews and training opportunities.

• 1-3 years' work experience in Public Benefits preferably in state offices like DHS; non-profits; private organizations or other relevant places.
• College or other equivalent degree
• Excellent computer proficiency MS Office- Word, Excel; Outlook
• Detail-oriented with proven ability to collect, organize and analyze detailed program, statistical, demographic, census and other data and present the results in a clear and concise manner.
• Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to prepare written materials and reports.
• Understanding of social services and familiarity with the aging network and aging issues.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with a high degree of detail.
• Understanding of research Reporting.
• Experience working in team environments.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, working autonomously and with others.
