Job Description Summary
Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is currently accepting applications for a highly motivated and enthusiastic P/TAssistant Track & Field Coach who enjoys working with and developing students athletes. Position will report to the Head Men's & Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Coach.
The P/TAssistant Track & Field Coach responsibilities include working with and supporting the Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach on:
  • Assist with jumps and multis of a competitive Intercollegiate Track & Field Program
  • Graduation of student-athletes
  • Academic supervision & success
  • Fundraising
  • Assist in the developing and managing a competitive competition schedule
  • Supervise & mentor Graduate Assistant Coaches
  • Organizing and conducting all competitions and training sessions
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations of the NAIA, Cascade Conference, and Eastern Oregon University
  • Implement the NAIA Champions of Character Program within their sports

This position will help carry out the department's mission, goals, and objectives. The department of athletics promotes core values that inspire academic excellence, athletic triumph, and community engagement through meaningful relationships and opportunities.
The Eastern Oregon University P/TAssistant Track & Field Coach is expected to adhere to the NAIA Coaches Code and EOU's Athletic Department's guiding principles:
(1) Support the physical, emotional, social, and mental development of student-athletes through a robust system of care and support that produces quality student-athlete experiences.
(2) Support high standards for academic excellence, assisting in academic oversight.
(3) A competent pursuit of athletic excellence shown by competing for Cascade Conference titles and participating in NAIA postseason play by advancing to the national championships.
(4) Embrace the responsibility for equitable treatment and promotion of diversity, acceptance, and inclusion.
(5) Encourage department innovation for enhanced success, and cultivate a mindset for growth, professional development, work-life integration, and department financial vitality.
(6) Promote community engagement and student-athlete character development through respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
(7) Strictly adhere to the highest level of fiscal control and full compliance with all governing associations with transparency and integrity.
(8) Engage EOU alumni through collaborative efforts that generate "Lifelong Mountie" loyalty and support.
Responsibilities
Training - Design, conduct, and monitor all athletically related activities per NAIA, Cascade Conference, and Institutional regulations regarding competition, practice, and conditioning opportunities. This includes preparing annual calendars declaring competition, practice, and conditioning schedules that comply with the 24-week NAIA policy. Evaluate student-athletes performance in competition, practice, and conditioning situations in order to identify strengths and areas of improvement. Develop instructional opportunities to improve skills based on fundamentals of activity and team success. Provide leadership during competition, practice, and conditioning sessions to facilitate proper technique and attitudes towards each other, opponents, and athletic department. Communicate with Athletic Training Staff regarding injuries of student-athletes and their ability to participate. Adhere to all regulations regarding the health and welfare of student-athletes as determined by the medical staff. Coordinate the fulfillment of all game management requirements per NAIA and Cascade Conference sport guidelines.
Academics/Conduct - Oversee academic progress of student-athletes in order to achieve satisfactory progress towards graduation and eligibility. Primarily recruit academically prepared student-athletes that meet/exceed admission standards (at least 90 %). Strive to achieve a cumulative team GPA each term of 3.0 or greater. Refer student-athletes to appropriate university resources (learning center, advisors etc.) when deemed necessary based on academic performance. Actively assist in the MAPP program within the department. Understand and communicate all university academic policy, as well as NAIA eligibility requirements to student-athletes. Assist head coach in developing and written team rules and regulations regarding conduct and expectations. Assist head coach with the process and plan to implement the NAIA Champions of Character into overall program.
Competitions - Develop sound plans and strategies for team in preparation of competitions. During competition, make tactical and strategic adjustments to improve chance of athletic success. Assist head coach with managing team related game day activities including practices, pre and postgame meals, travel, lodging, and any related functions. Act as primary liaison to event staff including sports information, facility manager, equipment manager, ticket operations and compliance personnel. Coordinate with Athletic Department staff needs for practice and competitions (gym space, etc.). Work with head coach in developing competition schedules in compliance with institutional and NAIA policy. Communicate with meet officials in a manner that does not misrepresent or compromise the program, department and/or University.
Public relations/Fundraising - Participate in public relations activities as approved by taking part in interviews with print, radio, or television media. In collaboration with head coach develop and manage sports camps and clinics following NAIA and University policy and procedures. Represent the university at professional, civic, booster, or alumni events as requested. Develop and submit for approval any program fundraising activities in accordance with department policy. You must have prior approval for all fundraising activities and events. Take an active role in any general Booster Club and/or department activities intended to secure resources for department.
Administrative Duties - Provide the head coach support on various administrative tasks that include, but are not limited to:
• Oversight for individual sport budget.
• Development of overall facility schedules as it relates to competitions, practice, visiting teams, and camps, itineraries for all individual and team travel prior to departure.
• Submit all necessary paperwork related to business affairs in a timely fashion.
• Monitor expenditures and per diem disbursements for compliance with department, university, and NAIA policies.
• Manage the purchase of apparel and equipment within the department's policies, and procedures.
• Monitor the condition of all equipment and assist the equipment manager with the proper care, repair, and replacement when necessary.
• Manage any post-season awards following all department, university, and NAIA policies
• Cooperate with all other coaches and staff in order to further enhance the operations of the entire department and university.
Minimum Qualifications
- First Aid/CPR Certified, Current and valid Driver's License
- One (1) years of demonstrated successful coaching at the collegiate or high school level as an assistant or head coach.
- Two (2) years of experience with sprints, jumps (long, high, and triple jumps), and multi's as coach or athlete.
- Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
- In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
Preferred Qualifications
-Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
