The County of San Mateo Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Psychiatric Social Worker/Marriage &Family Therapist -Youth Services Center-Spanish Speaking Required.

The current vacancy is in the Youth Services Center located in San Mateo, CA. The position will work a full-time 40-hours per week schedule; participate in an On-Call rotation; and requires fluency in both English and Spanish.

This clinician will provide specialized mental health services to justice involved youth that are detained in the Juvenile Hall or out-of-custody and on probation. The target population are adolescents and young adults ages 12 – 25 years of age presenting with severe emotional and/or behavioral issues and with multiple risk factors, including substance abuse, trauma, out-of-home placement, psychiatric hospitalizations. Principal duties will include Court Ordered assessments, individual and family therapy, in addition to crisis intervention, case management, collaboration and coordination with Probation and Institution staff, and community-based agencies. The clinician will also participate in an On-Call rotation. The selected clinicians will provide assessment and/or therapy within the Juvenile Hall, Camp Kemp, the Behavioral Health & Recovery Services office, other community locations and/or home settings.

 

The Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • Experience/interest in delivering behavioral health services to adolescents and young adults ages 12-25.
  • Clear and consistent boundaries with all clients and providers.
  • Solid clinical treatment, assessment, diagnostic and evaluation skills working with a adolescents and young adult population.
  • Experience/interest in working with youth and families with complex issues involving behavioral health and substance use.
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, clinical case management, crisis management, as well as trauma-informed evidence-based practices.
  • Experience/interest in conducting assessments, individual and family therapy.
  • Solid documentation skills: progress notes, assessments, client care plans, etc.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of clients from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and an ability to provide bilingual and culturally appropriate and proficient services.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with adolescents, young adults, their families, co-workers, other professionals, collaborative partners, and the public.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

  • MFT I: Registration with the Board of Behavioral Examiners as a Marriage and Family Therapist intern. An individual hired in this classification must become licensed within three years from the date of employment as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California.
  • MFT II: California license as Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).

Security Clearance: This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a security clearance as a condition of employment.
