The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a
Psychiatric Nursing Assistant1/2/3 Flex
What you will be doing:
As a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant, you will engage and monitor clients who present with acute and chronic mental health concerns. Duties include assisting and observation through the evaluation and an admission process that includes searching, accurately documenting patient property, and safely securing these items. You are required to observe behavior and client participation in their recovery and document these observations on an electronic health record (EHR). Other duties include assisting clients with their activities of daily living and utilization of routine technical, diagnostic, and treatment skills.

This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation.

Minimum Qualifications
Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 1
High school diploma or the equivalent;
AND
Eighteen years of age.
Special Note:
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 2
Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska.
OR
Six months of experience directly working with and providing paraprofessional aide, treatment, and/or rehabilitation services to patients or clients who have been diagnosed with or experience mental illness, behavioral or cognitive disorders, and/or addiction as part of assisted living, independent living, or treatment services, home, or facility setting.
Substitution:
Post-secondary education in psychology, sociology, mental health, and/or chemical dependency may substitute for up to three months of the requisite experience (2.67 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 3

Additional Required Information
At time of interview applicant must submit:
  • Copy of transcripts if using to meet MQs (unofficial are okay, please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts).
  • List of two (2) professional references, including daytime phone numbers, two (2) of which are from a current or former supervisor.
  • Copies of all performance evaluations that have been received for the last two (2) years, if available.

  • Submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
  • Provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations.
  • Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement)
  • Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
  • Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1, 2, or 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level of the position. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will only occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class and final approval by supervisor. It is recommended and encouraged that you apply for any/all levels that you are qualified for.
