  • Demonstrate effective managerial and leadership skills such as: critical thinking, decision making, delegation and conflict resolution.

Qualifications/Education Requirements

To qualify for this position, the candidate must hold a Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Board Certification (PMHNP-BC) and hold a master's degree in nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. In addition, this position requires the candidate to hold a current Mississippi license as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, current DEA privileges, and must be eligible to obtain medical malpractice insurance under the Federal Tort Claims Act. Qualifying candidates must also have two years of practicing experience with persons with co-occurring health/mental illness with HIV/AIDS management preferred. Candidates must be eligible for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs.

Core Competencies

  • Prescribe, direct, or administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional or behavioral disorders.
  • Administer, analyze and evaluate patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder.
  • Collaborate with other health care providers, psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, Psychiatric Nurses or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress, explain uses or effects of drugs, interpret medical laboratory test results, interpret psychological test results.
  • Design individual care plans using a variety of treatments.
  • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients, relatives or other professionals in the electronic health record.
  • Counsel outpatients or other patients during office visits.
  • Examine or conduct laboratory or diagnostic tests on patients to provide information on general physical condition or disorder.
  • Advise or inform patients, guardians, relatives, or significant others of patients' conditions or treatment.
  • Some travel may be required among clinics.
  • May be subject to frequent interruptions by other staff members; must be flexible with patient scheduling.
  • May be required to work beyond normal work hours and as part of a patient-centered medical home team.
