Job Purpose
The Trader will focus on business development through building customer and vendor relationships; this position will work to expand the purchasing and sales of Harvest Sherwood by identifying new markets and product opportunities that will create value for the customers of Harvest Sherwood. This role is an individual contributor who partners with colleagues to acquire the customer, then own the relationship by maximizing selling opportunities to the customer, consistent with company programs and strategies to positively influence the sale of Harvest Sherwood products. The primary purpose is to support oneself by a personal contribution of designated volume and margin requirements.
Key Responsibilities

  • The Trader will also be assigned duties, based on organizational needs and priorities.
  • Understand vendor capacities, limitations and forecasted opportunities from suppliers. Maintain market outlook and view with actionable deliverables
  • Ensure daily analysis of market trends & data
  • Monitor and own all aspects of the transaction; sale, shipment, account receivable (collections) and all post sale and post shipment follow-up.
  • Generate New Trading Opportunities
  • Cross sell new products to current customer base
  • Negotiate price with suppliers to maximize profitability
  • Ensure suppliers and customers are properly set up with required QA documentation, credit profiles, contracts and any other pertinent detail required by internal audit
  • Develop and enhance customer and supplier relationships by providing superior communication and timely follow-through
  • Maintain awareness of all costs including truck and storage rates to make effective decisions on commodity movements
  • Service customer and supplier needs as requested, able to respond with urgency, problem solving quickly as required
  • Support department by reporting to business leaders in regular cadence on opportunities, wins and losses
  • Partner with management to understand broad sense of costs and opportunities to enhance margins
  • Provide backup for other product categories as required
  • Other projects and tasks as needed
Qualifications and Experience

Requirements:
  • Deep understanding of commodity proteins
  • A recent book of business
  • Prior experience in managing freight
  • 2 years of outside sales experience (preferred)
  • Self – starter in a highly competitive industry
  • Superior communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, urgency, commitment, and ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously
  • Spanish speaking a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, build consensus and facilitate problem-solving and collaboration in a matrix environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
