We are Precept, and we are looking for a tactical, detailed, and collaborative Proofreader to support the production of our legacy and emerging products. For over 50 years, Precept has provided printed Bible studies and in-person experiences that guide our customers through the scriptures using the Precept Bible Study Method – an inductive method of studying the Bible. We are now focusing on developing print and digital studies that reach the next generation to help them grow in their relationship with God. We want to hear from you if this sounds like a challenge of interest.
The Precept Proofreader will be the final reviewer on all products prepared for the market. This person will review bible study materials with attention to detail and advise on grammatical changes and other issues needing resolution to make print and digital products market ready. Additionally, this person will be responsible for reviewing print materials, web, blog, and e-commerce postings and reviewing content uploaded to the mobile app.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
New Product Support
- Assist with preparing market-ready content for print production by proofreading digital and print versions before handoff to the respective product manager.
- Research and verify the accuracy of reference materials and advises of potential plagiarism.
- Obtain rights and permissions to use third-party content or quotes as needed.
- Proof final copies of print proofs and web/blog / mobile app previews before live production
- Serve as the primary quality control for new inventory.
- Obtain SKUs, file ISBNs and copyrights, and obtain barcodes for new print products.
- Confirm print and mobile app links and QR codes are accurate and performing as planned.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with the writing team, product managers, and marketing to prepare and manage new products.
- Assists with other areas of product development as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational skills
- Great attention to detail
- Strong grammar and command of the English language
- Background in Biblical studies and theology preferred
- Familiarity with book publishing standards
- Deadline-focused, able to manage multiple projects
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
- The ability to explain recommended changes clearly and concisely
- Ability to solve problems quickly.
- Familiarity with proofing tools
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Collaborative – able to work productively, leading a team and serving on a cross-functional team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in theology or English
- Four or more years of related experience and training
- Previous experience publishing print books
- Previous experience achieving deliverables by specific due dates and timelines.
- Experience with quality assurance of print books and inventory management is required.
Must be computer-savvy, able to use Microsoft tools, and adapt to new systems.
