Northern Engineering is seeking an experienced Land Surveyor!  By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to improve the quality of life in Northern Colorado by working on some of the most innovative projects in the region.

Core Responsibilities

  • Read and understand complex surveying standards and terminology, field data, legal descriptions, deeds, property descriptions, structural, architectural, and civil engineering plans.
  • Mentor less experienced staff in basic project stationing, note keeping and sketching methods, and methodology for setting survey monuments.
  • Understanding complex construction plans, layouts, and topographic surveys.
  • Mentor less experienced staff in property survey needs.
  • Mentor less experienced staff in basic ILC/Grade Certification, data formats, boundary, topographic, ALTA, surveys, and plats.
  • Understand Northern's liability on a project.
  • Perform research of complex recorded documents and survey deeds.
  • Fluent understanding of Civil 3D and office CAD systems to create survey files.
  • Accurately prepare complex plats, subdivision maps, condominium maps, plot plans, legal exhibits, and legal descriptions.
  • Identify advanced conflicts, unusual data points, etc.
  • Responsible for paying close attention to schedules and budgets and reporting any issues to the Senior Project Manager or Project Manager.
  • Assist Senior Project Manager or Project Manager with preparing proposals and estimates for bids.
  • Resolve any issues in the field and notify the Project Manager or client when necessary.
  • Ability to handle project changes.
  • Cultivate strong client and public relations.
  • Communicate with internal and external project teams.
  • This role may manage people, including performance management, career development, work/life balance, psychological safety, and professional development.
  • As necessary, engage in daily communication with Project Managers, Crew Chiefs, and Engineers.
  • Update CAD standards/templates
  • Understand Northern Engineering Standards and Processes.
  • Perform complex boundary, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking.
  • Assist the Senior Project Manager or Project Manager by providing direction and coordination to less experienced surveyors.
  • Achieve an 75-85% Billable Utilization Rate. Non-billable activities include company & team meetings, professional development, community involvement, innovation time, culture & engagement activities, learning, and training.
  • Responsible for completing time cards accurately and on time.
  • The responsibilities of this role may allow for telework following Northern's policy.
  • This role is eligible for the company cell phone plan.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 8 years of survey experience
  • Land Surveying Intern (LSI) certification or higher level certification may be substituted, may or may not be a Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D and Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance

Physical Requirements

  • Required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • The position requires a regular and normal range of hearing.
  • The employee must be able to lift 100 lbs. when performing fieldwork.
  • Requires prolonged sitting with 15% of the time spent bending and reaching during office work and prolonged standing with a significant amount of time spent bending, squatting, and reaching when working in the field.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Noise levels are consistent with a standard office environment when working in the office. However, when working in the field, noise levels vary from ambient outdoor levels to those requiring ear protection.
  • Able to sit for an extended period while in transit to job sites.
  • This position may require outdoor work, ranging from extreme heat to below freezing temperatures and the potential for uneven terrain.
