The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a critical path method (CPM) Schedule Analyst & Trainer to provide feedback to project managers (PM) on their overall project design and construction schedules in Microsoft Project and the Contractor's P6 or Microsoft Project CPM construction schedules for major capital construction projects (>=$10 million) and other high impact capital projects (< $10 million).

Purpose
Analyze project CPM schedules from PMs contractors to verify compliance with PDC PM policies and contract documents. Develop reports on analysis results, methods of recovery and schedule enhancements, and areas for improvements to the benefits of the project and PDC clients.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze P6 CPM schedules and provide detailed reports identifying issues which will affect the critical path of all CIP projects. Utilize industry standards CPM schedules analysis software such as Schedule Analyzer along with experience and knowledge of construction schedules, UT System and UT Austin contracts and requirements. Analyze task relationship, leveling, critical path, lags/leads, resource and cost loading data as required by contract.
  • Analyze Microsoft Project schedules developed by PMs for all projects and for those contractors using it for CP Projects. Utilize industry standard CPM schedule analysis software along with experience and knowledge of construction schedules, UT System and UT Austin contracts and requirements. Analyze task relationships, leveling, critical path, lags/leads, resource and cost loading data as required by contract.
  • Monitor each analyzed CPM schedule periodically to validate critical schedules issues identified and resolved. Work with the PM and contractor to utilize the analysis to recover, enhance, or shorten a schedule to the benefit of the project and client by conducting meetings, workshops, and planning sessions.
  • Develop, present, and implement a CPM schedule development, analysis, and schedule recovery training syllabus and sessions to educate PMs, CAs, clients, and leadership on the importance of proper Project Schedule development and maintenance practices to identify and mitigate project risk.
  • Aggregate schedule analysis issues, recovery strategies, etc. by project type to develop leading indicators that can be applied as Lessons Learned for presentation to PMs and PDC leadership and to assist planning of future projects by type. Hold regular meetings with PMs, Team Leads, Associate Directors, and Directors to present schedule dashboard data.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and specialized assistance for the resolution of difficult project problems to the PM in coordination with the Project Controls Group. May interface with clients, attend regular meetings and give statistical reports as needed.

Required Qualifications
5 years of design and construction scheduling and scheduling analysis experience with emphasis on university or Federal projects. P6 and MS Project scheduling required. Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related field (technical training and related experience may be considered in lieu of). Understanding of CPM and Earned Value Management System. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and construction and AE contracts. Strong written and verbal communications skills with ability to develop and present reports and analysis data. Regular, reliable attendance a must. Work productively during operating hours and meet deadlines timely. Will visit project worksites regularly to verify progress of projects against the schedules being analyzed.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
10 years of design and construction scheduling and scheduling analysis experience with emphasis on university or Federal projects. 3 years of design and construction scheduling and scheduling analysis experience with UT Austin and UT System projects. Familiarity with University rules, policies, and procedures regarding purchasing and travel. Experience with university systems, including file structure, OPUS, FAMIS, Define, etc.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$80,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
