Project Manager, Executive Projects, Volunteer
About the Pet Cancer Foundation
The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America. We need to do more for our furry friends, and PCF is building a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help them and their families.
Over the past 24 months, our volunteer team has grown to include professionals working virtually across the United States, Canada, and another half dozen countries worldwide. As we work to become the leading information resource provider in the field of pet health and animal cancer, we’re searching for experienced Project Managers to help support our website editorial department. That is where and how you can help us.
About the position:
As a volunteer Project Manager working under our project portfolio manager, your role will be to work with an assigned team within our website editorial dept. to build, update, track, and monitor that team’s project plans. You will be part of a team of project management peers assigned to other content teams within the department, ensuring your assigned project team is well-managed, fully staffed, and each team plan is integrated and aligned with the department’s master content plan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead development of the team content creation timeline, ensuring timely initiation, progression, and completion of articles.
- Liaise with your assigned team on a weekly basis providing them with necessary resources and information.
- Act as the main liaison for your assigned team within the portfolio group concerning project timelines, organizational standards, and deliverables.
- Ensure team content is being validated against PCF requirements, standards, and quality expectations throughout the entire process to limit revisions and lost time.
- Regularly update the portfolio manager on project statuses, flagging potential challenges and bottlenecks.
- Proactively work to solve challenges and bottlenecks prior to elevation to superiors.
- Enhance communication among writers, research assistants, and other stakeholders for smooth (on-time) project progression by conducting regular team meetings to maintain alignment on project goals and deliverables.
About You:
You are a dynamic individual who thrives in fast-paced environments. Your strength lies in your ability to manage difficult projects, ensuring they progress seamlessly. With a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach, you anticipate challenges and streamline processes to ensure efficiency. Your excellent communication skills allow you to liaise effectively with various stakeholders, from scientific writers to research assistants, fostering a collaborative environment. If you're passionate about managing processes and facilitating smooth workflows, we'd love to hear from you. You have:
- Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of project management experience with demonstrated success in leading and managing projects from initiation to completion.
- Demonstrated drive for results and ownership in addressing business needs.
- Proven ability to lead and work effectively in challenging environments.
- Demonstrated decisiveness in resolving business problems, making decisions, and identifying priorities.
- Interpersonal skills to influence and initiate appropriate change and facilitate and enhance performance within a cross-functional environment.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset but not required.
