About the Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) is looking for an experienced Project Manager-Structuralto join our Team! We are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil Engineering firm. This is an exciting new opportunity for you to successful complete and delivery on assigned structural projects. As the primary contact with the clients, the Project Manager also plays a key role in maintaining clients’ confidence by safeguarding their interests and striving to achieve their goals within the confines of the executed contract. What You'll Do
*Responsible for the technical accuracy and competency of projects.
*Signs and seals assigned project documents.
*Prepares design computations, plans, and related construction documents.
*Prepares quantity and cost estimates.
*Prepares complex reports, studies, and permits for projects.
*Responsible for using computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
*May provide constructability reviews and value engineering reviews.
*May secure executed contracts, Notice to Proceed, and Sub Consultant Agreements prior to the inception of project services.
*May assist in reviewing the contracts to safeguard the firm’s exposure against risks associated with scope, fees, and schedule along with contract language which allocates unreasonable and uninsurable liability to the firm.
*Monitors project delivery in relation to the contracted scope and fees. Promptly identifies client-requested out-of-scope services and works diligently with the client to secure additional compensation or limit efforts to the contracted scope of work while ensuring the client is aware of the limits of negotiated scope.
*Monitors clients’ project delivery goals and proactively identifies issues and obstacles that may compromise or influence achieving such goals.
*May negotiate client contracts and develop scope, fees, and schedule.
*Coordinates work with the clients and other team members.
*Coordinates with all disciplines (internal and external) involved in project delivery and ensure that the project team understands their scope, schedules, and budgets.
*Coordinates with the Design Group Manager and/or Office Manager to plan and secure the required technical and tangible resources for project delivery.
*Schedules project progress meetings with all disciplines and personnel to monitor project progress as defined by management.
*Attends client and public meetings (days, evenings, or nights).
*May serve as an onsite project representative and/or provide construction observation duties in the field.
*Visits the construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
*Responsible for the organization of project documents and files.
*Other duties as assigned.
To Be Successful
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering is required.
  • M.S. Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Active Structural Engineer license in the State of Illinois.
  • At least 5 years of combined experience in structural engineering is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering.
  • Proven leadership skills with engineering staff and organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong team player in a multi-disciplinary environment who can work on and contribute to several projects simultaneously.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Usually works in outside weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
  • Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
  • Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
  • IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.
