Job description

Under the general direction of the Corridor Project Director for the South County & Trade Corridors, the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans (Specialist), Project Manager, is responsible for managing difficult and complex specialized transportation projects. This includes the responsibility of ensuring that projects are completed in accordance with approved scopes, on schedule, and within budget. The incumbent has project responsibility throughout the entire project life cycle and collaborates with the Project Development Team to develop project scope, cost estimates, schedules, and clear work plans necessary for successful project delivery.
The incumbent is responsible for forming a team consisting of the appropriate functions required to support project development and for strategic planning, monitoring, and controlling activities carried out by all the Capital Outlay functions which support timely project delivery. The incumbent is also responsible for effectively communicating and coordinating with Headquarter functions (e.g., Transportation Programming, Program/Project Management, Local Assistance), local, state, and federal agencies, and external stakeholders within the United States and Mexico (if project assign is of a cross border scope).

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
While at the base of operations, the incumbent works in a climate-controlled office with artificial lighting. Multi-floor buildings are equipped with elevators and stairs. There may be occasions that require travel and occasionally conduct field reviews outdoors that the incumbent may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/or extreme heat or cold. It is required for the incumbent to possess a valid driver's license to operate a State-owned or leased vehicle.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
