Position Overview

The Project Manager of Exhibits provides general supervision, coordination, and scheduling support on all exhibit projects. This role ensures that all assigned projects achieve their goals completely and efficiently while adhering to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. This role is responsible for all phases of project planning and completion, including purchasing, material, and vendor acquisitions. This exempt role reports to the Senior Director of Exhibit Design & Production.

Responsibilities

• Project manage exhibit maintenance and development projects, including maintaining timelines, taking notes, scheduling, purchasing, and assisting with material sourcing.
• Ensure effective project documentation and communication in all phases of a project. 
• Support and oversee work of other staff who are managing projects, including helping to set up and manage project budgets, schedules, and work plans.
• Track project budgets; report to the Senior Director of Exhibit Design and Production to make updates and changes.
• Collaborate, engage, and communicate effectively with all departments, project teams, subcontractors, and partners to ensure all aspects of exhibit development, prototyping, fabrication, maintenance, and installation processes are completed on time, within budget and The Tech Interactive guidelines.
• Function as a subject matter expert (SME) in project management, improving project work at The Tech and contributing expertise to larger group meetings about institutional pedagogy and methodology.
• Complete additional related tasks or duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager.
  

Requirements and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Architecture, Design Management, Industrial Design, Project Management, Construction Management or related field preferred) and/or formal PMP certification preferred.
• 5 years of experience with project management in an exhibit, facilities maintenance, or construction industry.
• Strong management skills, including the ability to lead a team through multiple project phases as well as demolition and installation, with the ability to respond to changing priorities and deadlines.
• Proven project management, documentation, and communication skills, with a strong technical understanding and the ability to coordinate the work of a multidisciplinary project team.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Slack, Google Docs, and Smartsheet.
• Experience incorporating IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility) principles into project timelines.
  

Working Conditions and Schedule

 

• This is an on-site role with the possibility of flexibility for working some days at an alternative work location. Flexibility will vary depending on the needs of the job.
• Occasional weekend and evening hours to oversee project work (especially installation and contractors).
• Possess a valid California driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Physical aspects of the job include lifting 50 lbs, kneeling, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, etc.
  

Compensation: $77,000 - $86,000 per year, based on experience and background.
