Job Description and Qualifications

At Air Products, our purpose is to bring people together to reimagine what’s possible, collaborate and innovate solutions to the world’s most significant energy and environmental sustainability challenges. Grow with us as we embark on building tomorrow together by being the safest, most diverse, and most profitable industrial gas company in the world.

Reimagine What’s Possible

Air Products owns and operates a diverse portfolio of gas plants, and develops innovative technology, applications, and equipment solutions serving over 30 different industries. We also internally perform the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) of our own plants within our Americas Project Delivery Organization. We are seeking a Project Manager to support our team located at our Houston, TX office location.

This particular project manager role would lead the drilling of CO2 Sequestration Wells to support a very significant Clean Energy megaproject in the US Gulf Coast. The role would be part of the Project Management team which executes a variety of projects, which may be related to design and construction of new Air Separation Units, or new infrastructure projects (Power, utilities, buildings, modules, etc), or retrofits of equipment into existing plants. Typical travel is expected to be 25-50% on average over the project duration (as needed) to the construction site.

Principle Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

As Project Manager, you will be accountable and responsible for leading medium to large capital projects and ensuring successful delivery of project commitments. You will form a strong team across multiple functions and regions and provide them with clear direction to navigate through the entire project life cycle (Kickoff, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Start-up, Handover to Customer, and Warranty period).

You will lead and coordinate various internal and external stakeholders to achieve on-time project completion, within budget, to the satisfaction of the customer, and within acceptable levels of quality without compromising safety and reliability.

You will lead the development of the execution strategy, and oversee a project team to successfully complete the engineering, design, procurement, installation and commissioning of the CO2 Sequestration wells. You will participate in contract negotiations and manage a general contractor and several other contractors for various services. You will regularly interface with the Air Products Subsurface Team and Pipeline teams.

The role requires periodic preparation and presentation of project status reports to upper management and the customer (if applicable). The reports include safety information, project execution progress, cost and schedule forecasts, and risks. You will be expected to succinctly articulate issues and challenges as well as proposed mitigations and resolutions.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Active Demonstration of Safety Leadership, in order to reinforce strong safety culture, and maintain a safe work environment in all project locations (offices, fabrication shops, construction site)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Leadership and motivation techniques to drive successful project completion.
  • Effective coordination of cross-regional resources.
  • Strategic planning and risk identification/mitigation.
  • Technical and commercial competence.
  • Ability to handle complex project situations.
  • Strong cross-cultural understanding and competency.
  • Sound decision making capability.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Petroleum Engineering, or in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience, preferably offshore Oil & Gas

  • Knowledge and experience in drilling of wells
  • Large (>$400MM) project experience
