Development & Projects HSSE (PTS/SD): The Development and Projects organization is involved in the maturation and delivery of capital Projects worldwide across all Businesses: Upstream/ Integrated Gas and Downstream/Renewables. The purpose of the PTS/SD team is to support the Development and Project teams in the design of cost & carbon competitive solutions which are delivered without Harm to People and Environment, in accordance with the Shell Health Safety Security Environmental and Social Performance Standards.

Purpose & Accountabilities

  • Early-stage project envr. review and advice, including environmental impact assessment and permitting strategy

  • Engage and work with agencies and NGOs on behalf of Shell, as required

  • Envr. Contractor evaluation and Request for Proposal (RFP) support for project specific envr. services

  • Manage contractors/consultants on behalf of Shell, as required, recognizing need for firewalls in certain situations

  • Identify, highlight and manage potential conflict of interests eg when selecting external consultancies to perform study work, or when assuring work

  • Provide assurance that filing of applications (by contractors) is compliant with all regulatory requirements.

  • Environmental Impact Assessment creation but mainly review/approval (IA Subject Matter Expert…Shell accreditation)

  • Project specific regulatory/permitting support particularly in novel fields where there is limited broad consulting experience (e.g., CCS, renewable fuels, energy alternatives, etc.)

  • Aide specific projects and project consultants with engagements with Shell SMEs in Biodiversity Action Plans (Critical Habitat and Deforestation) and Net Positive Impact

  • Assist in tracking progress on Net Positive Impact implementations across the Projects portfolio

  • Assist projects on the implementation on environmental sustainability commitments (e.g., implementation of water and waste/circularity)

  • Aide in project envr. data reporting improvement journey in projects

  • Manage multiple activities and tasks as well as conflicting demands while ensuring delivery of agreed to priorities and deadlines.

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or environmental Engineering. With at least 7 years of environment and regulatory experience

  • Shell Impact Assessment Practitioner, preferably with SME accreditation.

  • Strong Knowledge/Skill of Shell Respecting Nature requirements

  • Strong knowledge of oil and gas regulatory, permitting and compliance requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and application experience of HSSE & SP Control Framework/New SEAM Stds

  • Awareness of Shells Project Management Framework including Decision Control and Assurance Framework, Controls, Control points, Accountable technical authorities and responsible technical authorities but especially implementation of HSSE Activity Plan

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to challenge, influence and build internal and external relationships

  • Has or able to develop strong collaborative relationships with the project and functional teams to ensure timely and effective delivery.

  • Ability to work well with people at all levels in the organization and government agencies.

  • Has or able to develop a trusting, collaborative relationship with the asset and functional teams to ensure timely and effective delivery.

  • Ability to foresee potential risks/issues, develop mitigations, involve the right Shell people, and coordinate and execute the plan.

  • Ability to work through unique complex problems and find working solutions for projects.

  • Excellent communicator, able to distill and communicate complex messages or strategies to project managers, team leads, and our Regulators.

  • The position requires a confident leader with S&E experience, willing to intervene, coach and support at all levels of the organization including senior Leadership Team members

  • Strong aptitude for Learner Mindset, with a genuine passion for HSSE

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities

  • Competitive applicants will have a proven track record with significant project HSSE delivery.

The base salary range for this position is $146,000- $218,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
