POSITION: Project Engineer/Land Surveyor
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Vester and Associates, Inc. has been continuously involved in many aspects of commercial and residential surveying and engineering in Tippecanoe County since 1961. The firm was originally established by Burton S. Vester. Patrick N. Cunningham became the owner in July of 1977. We have provided all types of professional surveying and civil engineering services which include: complete design of streets; sanitary sewer and drainage plans for several commercial and residential developments of private developers; control surveys for Purdue University, the City of Lafayette, and Tippecanoe County; right-of-way engineering; engineering surveys; construction stakeout; and also construction management. Currently we have 2 Licensed Land Surveyors on staff.
In 1961, Vester and Associates, Inc. was situated overlooking the Wabash River where Riehle plaza is now located. In 1975 the business was moved to the west side of the Tippecanoe County Court House Square and remained there until 1994. Throughout the early 70's, 80's, and 90's, the company began to grow due to the developing technology, the broadening capabilities of services available, the increased demand from clientele, and the number of employees needed to keep up with the expanding business. In 1994 Vester and Associates, Inc. moved to a historically remodeled three-story building on the South side of the Court House Square, where it is currently located.
Job Description
Project Engineer/Land Surveyor in the Tippecanoe County area. The successful candidate will have 5 years of technical experience in the private land development design area. Activities will involve project management, preparation of proposals and reports, subdivision design, site design, grading and drainage design, water quality control design, storm sewer design, sanitary sewer design, street design and water design, expertise in boundary law and ALTA land title surveys.
The ideal candidate will successfully demonstrate achievement, proficiency, and progressive responsibility in the following areas:
- Be involved in office business development activities.
- Controls project cost, schedule, and quality of work. Makes decisions concerning approved expenditures to meet project budget, preventing the need for write-offs, and maximizing project margin.
- Mentors and develops staff, providing leadership and an environment, which encourages teamwork, initiative and growth.
- Compiling, evaluating, analyzing, and presenting engineering calculations and evaluations for storm water management and water quality control designs.
- Preparation of work plans, reports, and other technical documents
- Development of cost estimates and proposals
- Residential and commercial subdivision design
- Development and/or understanding of engineering plans and specifications.
- Coordination and oversight of technicians
- Maintains knowledge of new regulatory and technical developments to provide the most cost-effective solutions to client problem.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and or Land Surveying Engineering,
- Minimum 5+ years of experience
- Subdivision, drainage and water quality control design experience
- Professional engineer (PE) and or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
