- Plans and recommends development of the physical facilities. Advises on structural changes and additions or modifications to the building.
- Establishes priorities for work to be done, coordinates duties, and visits jobs in progress. Reports irregularities, interruptions, and delays in work to the Director of Engineering.
- Tours District plant and equipment and inspects equipment and engineering spaces; initiates and supervises corrections of plant and equipment discrepancies as necessary. Develops budget estimates for all plant upgrades, etc. Assists vendors, material management and department personnel with equipment installation requirements.
- Performs feasibility studies for new equipment and systems. Reviews technological innovations for Engineering Department applications. Aids in budget development as required. Initiates purchase requests as authorized. Maintains adequate stock of materials and supplies.
- Reviews codes and regulations and enforces compliance.
- Participates in interviewing applicants, trains, prepares work schedules Evaluates performance, counsels, and recommends hiring, discipline, and discharge of assigned personnel.
- Writes departmental memorandums as needed and updates policy letters as directed.
- Develops and maintains a positive work climate and overall team effort of the department.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
- Participates with Architect and Engineers in project development, bid evaluation, value analysis and contract administration.
- Develops Interim Life Safety Plans along with Infection Control Risk Assessments. Is responsible for review and receiving approval and monitoring of approved plans.
- Coordinates construction activities along with hospital/facility operations. Responsible for managing all construction activities, schedules, and financials of outside contractors.
- Evaluates with use of consultants and offers recommendations on building system upgrades/improvements such as roof replacements, paint upgrades, HVAC systems etc..

- Skills and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the Engineering profession. Such proficiency is normally acquired through completion of a baccalaureate in Engineering or 20 years of field experience in related capacity.
