Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful 
candidate is expected to report to Spring Hill, Tennessee on a full-time basis.

The Role

At GM environmental, we are geared towards developing creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. As an environmental engineer at General Motors you will have the opportunity to champion the air, waste and water compliance programs and be responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk. You will work cross functionally with diverse groups to create and implement best-in-class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across the site. As an Environmental Leader, you will be working in an exciting manufacturing environment and be a part of a team fulfilling GM’s Vision of Zero, Zero, Zero. 

The GM Environmental Project Engineer will focus on process improvement projects (all medias), construction project oversight, plant partnership initiatives (GMS, ACAP, NPP, etc...). Additionally, the Environmental Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting spill response/HAZWOPER, cost savings projects, zero waste projects, facilities projects and safety contract management.

What You'll Do

  • Focus on driving consistent environmental stewardship programs. 

  • Engage with local regulatory agencies. 

  • Develop creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. 

  • Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems. 

  • Monitor environmental parameters and progress to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.  

  • Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate the latest technologies, and provide long-term environmental solutions. 

  • Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs, to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance. 

  • Interface with business partners and regulatory agencies to prepare required regulatory documentation and reports, schedule and perform compliance testing.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities​ 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering or related sciences with emphasis on environmental engineering preferred. 

  • 3+ years’ experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, and/or Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements. 

  • Experience in environmental engineering or related science, preferably at a manufacturing operation. 

  • Basic knowledge of the automotive manufacturing processes is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to execute projects. 

  • This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
