CannonDesign has an exciting opportunity for a Project Designer based in our Washington, DC area office. Take a look at the description below. If you think your skills and experience make you a good match for this position, we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for creative, curious, empathetic people to join our Living-Centered Design movement.

ABOUT OUR FIRM
CannonDesign is an integrated design solutions firm focused on helping people continuously flourish. Whether designing for innovations in health, new scientific discoveries, equity in education or the next big idea in business, we use our Living-Centered Design approach to help organizations realize widespread change. Our ability to design transformational places, plans and strategies is why Fast Company named us a World Changing Company and one of the most innovative design firms in the world.

ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be a key participant in the design process, translating ideas into built environment solutions. You will help nurture and develop people and be a voice in your teams and your office for design excellence.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • In collaboration with design leaders and team members, conceptualize design solutions and develop them throughout all phases of a project. Create innovative design concepts that synthesize our clients' culture, goals and aspirations to deliver solutions responsive specifically to them.
  • Perform in a supporting role to senior design leaders, effectively translating shared design goals and ideas for both team and client. Focus on schematic design, and design development, while also collaborating closely with project architects to guide detailing and construction documentation. Provide guidance on design intent during the construction administration phase.
  • Prepare and direct the preparation of client presentation materials, particularly our 2D and 3D design visualizations, to convey the design in a compelling and sophisticated manner. Lead design presentations when called upon to do so in support of the project and team.
  • Work within our culture of being an integrated practice by closely collaborating with interior designers and typology subject matter experts on holistic design solutions from exterior to interior.
  • Collaborate with technical leaders and engineers to employ sensitive consideration of building systems. Coordinate design intent with other disciplines.
  • Integrate performance-based and sustainable design strategies into design solutions, including supporting the building performance group in their energy modeling efforts.
  • Expect to apply these approaches in the design of large-scale projects and/or multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Mentor and grow emerging professionals. You will assist in nurturing an environment that exemplifies collaboration, experimentation, innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture OR non-professional Bachelor degree within a school offering a NAAB accredited program required. B.Arch or M.Arch from an accredited program preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of related professional experience.
  • Architectural Registration in the United States preferred.
  • LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Knowledge of building codes and requirements.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical knowledge of exterior and interior materials and building assemblies.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple disciplines to achieve design intent.
  • Command of Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office required. Additional 3D modeling experience in Rhino or other comparable software preferred.
  • Experience with one or more real-time rendering and 3D rendering software such as Enscape, Twinmotion, and/or V-Ray required, as demonstrated through a portfolio of past and current visualization work.
  • Experience with digital media creation and editing in the Adobe Creative Cloud applications required.
  • Some experience in computational design tools such as Grasshopper and Dynamo preferred.

ABOUT WORKING HERE
  • We are relentless in our pursuit of client adoration (not simply satisfaction). Consistent delivery of the best service is what we are about.
  • We are committed to ensuring our practice is equitable for all employees, representative of the communities around us - and focused on the future of design. We advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts through the leadership of our DEI Council, Employee Resource Groups and other community advocacy initiatives.
  • We're about communication and transparency here. If you want to talk to someone about an idea you have, or a challenge that needs addressing, we're ready for you.
