Job Summary:

Disney Entertainment’s eight-owned ABC stations are multiplatform leaders in local news and information. As the No. 1 station in Philadelphia for almost 45 years, 6abc Action News delivers local news, information, traffic and weather to more than 3 million homes. WPVI serves close to 7 million people 2+ who reside in The Delaware Valley, an area covering Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. In the past year Action News has won 2,633 out of 2,662 newscasts in households for a winning percentage of 99.8%. On average, Action News brings together nearly 45% of all adult news viewers, 25-54. WPVI has provided coverage to the Thanksgiving Day Parade for 100 years in 2019!

The OTV Central Traffic Department is responsible for the production of all the linear logs and schedules for all of the ABC and Localish OTV Television Stations (8 markets, 18 logs total). The department consists of 4 core teams, 2 inventory teams, 1 programming team, and 1 copy team. This is a team that works remotely, but team members are required to keep actively engaged with other members of the team, team members at station sites, Disney Ad Sales, and DC3 Operations in Woodlands, TX. Being open to maintaining regular connections through phone, Zoom (cameras on), Microsoft Teams, etc is all required.

The right candidate will be integral to the overall success of a station’s sales strategy and will be aware of the possibility of financing inventory to enhance opportunities and dollars.

The hours for this position will be 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. EST, Monday – Friday.

What You Will Do

  • The Programming Specialist is responsible for handling all aspects of programming and formatting in the WideOrbit traffic system for the stations assigned to that specialist. They will gather communication from local stations, networks, and syndicators to input program info, confirm correct format setups, handle program foundation aspects of WideOrbit (like the inventory and break codes), and work closely with the DC3 operations team to ensure automation triggers are properly coded within logs.

  • Apply WideOrbit, as well as Disney tools, to confirm and preview incoming content (like Vantage).

  • Serve as a backup for other stations/program specialists in the group as needed.

  • Communicate regularly with management and inventory teams on program changes affecting spot placements/inventory allotments. They will also connect with station personnel on possible changes related to network special reports, breaking news, or network-wide changes.

  • This position requires knowledge of how inventory is sold and handled, as well as basic material setup and instruction, the specialist should have a pre-existing knowledge/background that includes inventory/log management and copy/material/content management.

  • Candidate should be aware of displaced units on assigned stations and proactively consider options to minimize outstanding displaced, i.e., formatting better for sponsors, manipulating inventory, or formulating suggestions for approval on re-structuring that could help clear more spots.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a broadcast position, including Master Control or in a traffic position.

  • Must have impeccable attention to detail, data points, and computer savvy.

  • Must be comfortable with communicating via email, live chat, phone, and web meetings (like Zoom).

  • Ability to work in a remote environment and support the team working the schedule of 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. EST, Monday – Friday.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent experience

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience


The hiring range for this remote position is $55,022 to $84,920 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
