Job Title: Program Manager, (PPL) People Projects & Leadership 

Compensation: 50k-65k Annual Salary/Exempt employee

Full-time: 100% FTE, 40 hours per week

GENERAL POSITION OVERVIEW

Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from working-class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. The NEST is proud to be a great place to get your career started and/or to expand your career to the next level. It is an exciting time to join the NEST as we are on the precipice of expanding to a total of five communities across Northern California by the end of 2023. Digital NEST has centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy,  and soon to launch in Stockton and Modesto. 

This role is pivotal for the replication and scaling efforts of the NEST to achieve the greatest impact in delivering training to the youth of the rural communities served. In this position you will be responsible for managing the ongoing implementation and development of the People, Projects and Leadership (PPL) Pathways, one of the three technical education Pathway Programs we offer. You will lead your team in the development and implementation of the Project Management and Marketing curriculum and support the integration of professional (soft) skills throughout your department. Additionally you will collaborate with the other Pathways Managers to support the scaling and expansion to our five communities.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Management (65%)

  • Guide and support the curriculum development for the Project Management  and Marketing concentrations, offering oversight and direction and supporting the alignment with CTE standards. 
  • In collaboration with the Director of Program and bizzNEST,  support the design of a comprehensive and coherent curriculum plan that includes the development of the Pathway branch - People, Projects & Leadership (PPL) and the bizzNEST curriculum to ensure a seamless training experience for members. The curriculum must demonstrate responsiveness to regional industry workforce needs and instruction grounded on cultural competence, cultural pride, self-empowerment and critical consciousness-based approaches. 
  • Serve managerial functions for a team including, but not limited to the following: overall hiring of staff; team supervision of a regional team comprised of Instructors and TAs working within the PPL Pathway and in the Gilroy Center; oversee the pathway budget.
  • Work closely with the Gilroy Center Director in leadership of  the Gilroy Hub Team and foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, monitoring, and reviewing performance and other duties typical of the supervision of professional employees. Lead the instructional design and curriculum development for the pathway, including marketing and project management concentrations; align  with Career Technical Education standards; identify certifications to imbed in the concentrations.
  • Collaborate to support Director and C-Suite projects, including alignment to bizzNEST.
  • Collaborate with bizzNEST managers to align current curriculum offerings. 
  • Collaborate extensively with the Membership team at the Gilroy Center as well as the Pathway instructors based in Gilroy.
  • In close collaboration with Directors and bizzNEST staff, develop a bizzNEST PPL Internship role.
  • Support Career Services Department in their work to embed NESTed professional skills into the curriculum.
  • Support planning and development of annual calendar and program implementation.
  • Role-model use of professional skills in alignment with the Digital NEST framework; coach youth and staff on professional skill development and use.
  • Coach youth on career development in conjunction with the Career Services Manager.
  • Follow organizational policies and procedures (e.g. keeps calendars and other documentation up-to-date, attends mandatory meetings); proactively and promptly communicates problems with policies and procedures to the supervisor.
  • Contribute to the agenda for, attend, and actively participate in all relevant program management meetings.
  • Develop and manage/monitor a program departmental budget, records of expenditures: fulfill all Accounting department requests to complete administrative tasks related to budget development and management/monitoring.

 

Evaluation, Quality Assurance and Program Delivery (15%)

  • Step in to deliver  course content in the case of a PPL team  member being absent. 
  • Review and support  curriculum development with instructors, offer feedback and guidance with curriculum and instruction regularly. 
  • Maintain a current understanding of PPL-related fields, such as Marketing Coordination, Logistics Coordination and Project Management, and other potential industries and emerging technologies and regional workforce needs and trends related to those fields.
  • Participate in NEST evening and weekend programs and events on an occasional basis; facilitate youth involvement in these programs and events. 
  • Monitor NEST youth participants’ status and wellbeing and share observations across the program staff. 
  • Collaborate on and complete seasonal and annual reports. 

 

Partnerships and Member Recruitment (20%)

  • Develop strong K-12 partnerships with new and existing stakeholders across all 5 communities, earning the confidence and trust of school administrators - principals, teachers and counselors). 
  • Represent the Digital NEST on relevant, external events and meetings. 
  • Provide general support to fundraising efforts expected of all staff: showcase members and member work, speak articulately about programming and be a model representative and evangelist for Digital NEST in the community; collaborate with the development team on grants related to the PPL Pathway. 
  • When needed, provide support in partnership development and recruitment of members to ensure full capacity of all PPL trainings. 
  • Identify, build relationships with and cultivate engagement of youth NEST Members in center programs. 
  • Manage a cohort tracker for the PPL Pathway to assess program health and reflect on youth engagement practices. 
  • Work with other NEST staff to cultivate and maintain partnerships that can assist with expanding and improving the PPL program such as, but not limited to, Gavilan, local businesses, Gilroy Unified School District, etc. 
  • Ensure that the PPL program objectives produce the qualifications and skills that will make trainees eligible and competitive for those positions
  • Represent the NEST in a professional, constructive and compelling manner to stakeholders at meetings, on social media, at public events and in media products or written publications. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Marketing, Communications, Social Work) or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 5 years of cumulative full-time experience coordinating complex projects/initiatives, or comparable experience in, marketing, workforce development and/or education fields.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing and implementing high impact, youth-focused programs and supervising and supporting professional staff.
  • Proven track record of designing, developing and managing educational programs, including curriculum development and instructional design, for diverse and underrepresented youth populations.
  • Working knowledge of  instructional design methodologies, experiential and project-based learning strategies, learning goal/objective writing, and utilization of learning scaffolds.
  • Proficiency in utilizing task or project management systems and other relevant technology tools.
  • Experience in cultivating and maintaining partnerships with local organizations, educational institutions, and businesses to support program expansion and improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
