POSITION: Program Lead

EMPLOYED BY: Executive Director

RESPONSIBLE TO: Program Manager

PURPOSE: To provide programming during out-of-school hours (afterschool and summer) and/or through outreach (school based or community programming) Assist with, design and/or facilitate programs and activities in accordance with Girls Inc. philosophy across diverse cultural, social and educational program areas.

Programming may occur virtually and in person; at our center or through outreach opportunities.

STATUS: Non-exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred-youth work experience or currently working on a degree/certificate in early childhood education and/or development, or social work.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support, design and schedule curricular goals and monthly calendars of program activities and events that are diverse in content areas for girls that are educational and age specific.
  • Serve as a positive role model for girls. Communicate appropriately and professionally in the spirit of Girls Inc.’s mission. Demonstrate respectful communication, healthy relationships, and positive leadership at all times
  • Teach, encourage, and inspire girls to be respectful to themselves and others
  • Recruit girls when necessary to meet the ideal number of girls being served.
  • Promote skill building, mentorship and positive attitudes through the Girls Inc.Bill of Rights.
  • Assist Program Manager with scheduling and researching community engagement opportunities as well as family engagement events. Represent Girls Inc. by attending these events.
  • Observe partner School policies and procedures and respect the Girls Inc. program space as well as general School instructional spaces.
  • Create lesson plans based on Girls Inc. curricula, making sure all plans are submitted to theProgram Manager as scheduled. Lesson plans should be developmentally appropriate.
  • Support and contribute to any group and individual incentive and behavior programs
  • Assist with assessment and evaluation, including attendance, achievements, surveys, pre & post tests, and behavior
  • Ensure overall safety, cleanliness and functioning of Girls Inc.'s facilities and fleet, including support for some/all of the following: o Daily cleaning to include program rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, and common areas.
  • Restock and supply all areas as needed. Take trash out each day. Check vehicle for trash and dirt after field trip.
  • Submit written requests to the Assistant Program Manager regarding program supply purchases
  • Maintaining positive relationships and communications with liaisons from Institutional partners, including our school partners, teachers, and administrators, post-secondary schools, students, and interns.
  • Assist with documentation and storytelling of Girls Inc. programs, including taking photographs & video and recording stories, learning lessons and impact
  • Using organization’s vehicle assist with daily delivery/pick-ups as needed. Run errands as necessary.
  • Ensure working condition, safety, and integrity of Girls Inc.'s computers and technology, including support for some/all of the following: o Maintain computer integrity (i.e., hardware integrity, software needs/updates, records, virus protection, etc.) o Block/parental controls as appropriate o Maintain working condition of i-pad cart/mobile classroom. o Keep sufficient records on IT and computers updated and shareable with co-workers, including all passwords for any girl/shared use.

Responsibilities particular to In Center programming

  • In collaboration with the Program Manager, create, implement and schedule Girls Inc. of Wayne County programming
  • Assist with volunteers. Provide guidance to volunteers/staff to explore new and different approaches and resources to meet the needs of the girls and to keep programs flexible, educational and interesting.

Responsibilities particular to Outreach programming

  • Maintain a Google Doc Calendar, shared with the Program Manager, which lists scheduled schools, dates, times, grades and teacher information, as well as whether the session is held virtually or in person.
  • Implement Girls Inc. Healthy Sexuality Programming.
  • Implement Girls Inc. Puberty Programming.
  • Complete data collection as required.

Special Position Requirements

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in different settings.
  • Willingness to travel to different locations to deliver program
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record. Access to reliable transportation.

Girls Inc. Professionalism

  • Participate in periodic assessment of own performance, develops own goals and objectives. Take advantage of training and other developmental and professional growth opportunities. Attend and participate in Girls Incorporated regional and national functions as agreed upon with the Program Manager.
  • Participate in all staff and team meetings to share ideas and concerns, and works collaboratively with staff to ensure agency goals and objectives are met.
  • Any and all duties as assigned by the Program Manager and others as directed by the Program Manager.

Education and Experience

● Preferred-youth work experience or currently working on a degree/certificate in early childhood education and/or development, or social work.

● Preferred -background in youth development, gender equity, and a strong advocate for girls’/women’s’ issues’

● Experience in implementing programs with youth, preferably in an outreach/camp setting

The Program Associate inspires girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The Program Associate ought to be able to 1) work well with others in a diverse environment, 2) enjoy working with and around girls, 3) function independently with a basic computer literacy, 4) provide role modeling to develop strong, smart and bold girls, 5) have a valid driver’s license and meet organizational insurance eligibility, 6) lift 30 pounds while completing assorted tasks, and 7) complete successful completion of a criminal history check. Spanish/English bilingual is a plus.
