SALARY:                          $48,000 - $54,000

 

About New Yorkers for Children:

New Yorkers for Children (NYFC) improves the well-being of youth and families in the child welfare system with an emphasis on older youth aging out of the system.  NYFC provides direct educational, financial and emotional support and develops programs to fill gaps in the system in partnership with foster care agencies, community organizations, and the NYC Administration for Children’s Services.

NYFC is a $6.7 million hybrid nonprofit that operates direct scholarship programs for over 1,000 foster youth annually while also managing over 30+ grants with promising program practices in the field of NYC child welfare. Half of its annual budget is dedicated to subgrants to community partners or expert consultants.  Most recently, NYFC has been highlighted for its trailblazing efforts in ensuring that youth aging out of foster care have access to unconditional cash transfers and it is a leading advocate for Universal Basic Income for all youth aging out of foster care.

Job Description

NYFC seeks an energetic, creative and results-oriented individual to serve as a Program Associate reporting to the Manager of Youth Programs. The Associate will also work with the Senior Director of Programs and the Executive Director, and outside consultants to ensure that NYFC successfully executes on programs providing technical assistance to local community-based organizations. In addition, the Associate will help NYFC facilitate learning communities and regular events to encourage collaboration and cross-pollination among subgrantees and partners.
Among other responsibilities, the Program Associate will assist with all aspects of program implementation such as preparing presentations for monthly meetings, collecting and tracking submissions such as responses to Requests for Proposals and subgrantee reports, engaging with current and potential subgrantees in meetings and in written correspondence, and functioning as a point of contact for subgrantees. The ideal candidate will have program management experience, emotional maturity, and be comfortable collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders. They will have a clear and demonstrated passion for the mission and a personal commitment to integrity. They are adept at working collaboratively while also being highly self-motivated.
The position reports directly to the Manager of Youth Programs to carry out the duties identified below. Key tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assist with creation and review of Requests for Proposals and reporting templates
• Assist with monitoring and tracking the work of sub-grantees, collecting and tracking interim and final reporting (both quantitative and qualitative) to ensure that reports are timely and complete
• When needed, collaborate with the Finance Team for payment processing, when necessary, with the goal of providing quality services to sub-grantees and helping to maintain organizational oversight
• Prepare sub-grant and service contracts and letters of agreements
• Work with sub-grantees as needed to troubleshoot program problems and challenges and to determine effective and efficient solutions
• Assist with tracking data on program outcomes and deliverables
• Developing reports on grant progress regularly for internal and external stakeholders
• Set up and participate in monthly meetings with subgrantees and community partners
• Assist with writing, preparing and submitting reports to NYFC funders
• Support additional implementation activities, such as creating and updating contact lists and assisting with preparation for PowerPoints for monthly partner meetings
• Participate in site visits to subgrantee locations
• Assist with providing technical support
• Collaborate with program and administrative staff (both internal and external) as part of the program reporting processes
• Assist with the creation of grant proposals for additional program funding

• Other related duties as needed

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be self-motivated with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including small, community-based organizations as well as more established foundations and corporations. Specific requirements include:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred, though others will be considered; MSW, MPA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus
• 2-3 years’ experience in grant, program, and/or project management or related area or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
• Experience in Not-For-Profit; Government, or related industry preferred
• Experience in managing programs on behalf of nonprofit organizations preferred
• Excellent organizational and project management skills with attention to detail required
• Strong work ethic and passion for NYFC’s mission-driven work required
• Strong communication skills and computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to take projects from assignment through completion
• Previous experience in child welfare a plus


Additional Information

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
