Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Montclair State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Professor of Musical Theatre (Open-Rank), who will also assume the role of Head of Musical Theatre starting August 26, 2024. This faculty member will coordinate and lead our nationally recognized BFA in Musical Theatre program, while contributing to the large and active Theatre and Dance Department as a whole. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, directing and/or choreographing productions, and spearheading various aspects of program administration, including curriculum development, advising, recruiting, student belonging initiatives, and season curation.
The new Head of the Musical Theatre program will join a robust faculty and a community of nearly 90 MT majors from across the United States. Our program, only 15 miles from NYC, aims to build our national and international profile as a leader in both equity and excellence. We attract and nurture strong Musical Theatre talent in our students and integrate dynamic professional artists into our teaching faculty and productions to advance the mission of both the department and Montclair State University as a whole. We are seeking an administrative leader who can build on our past successes while defining a visionary direction for the program's future. Our program head will work in partnership with other faculty and staff in our diverse and vibrant Theatre and Dance Department as well as the Cali School of Music. We seek engaged faculty members who will enrich our collaborative, interdisciplinary community.
The ideal candidate will have extensive professional experience in the Musical Theatre genre and experience in leadership at other institutions. We seek faculty who are committed to continuing their creative practice to bring cutting-edge industry knowledge into the classroom. Ongoing professional activity is expected to advance the University's reputation and represent the quality of our faculty and programs on national and global platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have an MFA, a terminal degree, or the equivalent in professional experience and a strong record of university-level teaching excellence, student mentorship, and demonstrated leadership ability. Faculty are expected to maintain an active creative practice, demonstrated national and/or international performance, choreography, or directing experience is expected.

THE COLLEGE OF THE ARTS
The College of the Arts (CART) at Montclair State University offers 50+ undergraduate and graduate programs and certificates through its four academic units: Department of Art & Design, School of Communication and Media, John J. Cali School of Music, and Department of Theatre and Dance.
