Summary

 

This position will be located at the UNM Prevention Research Center (PRC) and will be part of a multi-disciplinary team collects and analyzes data from students in New Mexico high schools. This position is designed to provide training for a recent college graduate in order to prepare them for a professional position in a field related to prevention science or health promotion. The position will assist the team in all aspects of research projects to provide the incumbent with the skills and knowledge needed to perform the duties of an Associate Scientist in the PRC in the future. Duties may include assisting with data collection using web-based surveys, in-person interviewing or focus groups. The position will also be likely to analyze data and prepare dissemination products under the supervision of PRC staff. These products will include English and Spanish materials. The position may also conduct literature reviews and write drafts of data briefs on various topics. In cooperation with other team members, the position may use Stata and/or NVivo for analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, respectively. 

 

Duties and responsibilities for this position may include:

  1. Assists with conduct of the New Mexico Youth Risk & Resiliency Survey (NM-YRRS) data collection under the supervision of faculty and senior professional staff.
  2. Prepares dissemination products that communicate NM-YRRS findings to non-scientist audiences under supervision of faculty and senior professional staff.
  3. Receives guidance, mentoring and training from professional personnel to carry out the dissemination activities needed for the YRRS data products.
  4. Assists with the collection of the New Mexico School Health Profiles (NM SHP) survey using REDCap data collection software.  
  5. Uses SQL database to monitor recruiting and samples for the NM-YRRS and NM SHP and create reports from this database.  
  6. Analyzes data from NM-YRRS under supervision from faculty and senior staff.  
  7. Creates infographics and other recruitment and dissemination products.  
  8. Assists with literature reviews to assist the NM-YRRS steering committee with decision making for future NM-YRRS instruments.
  9. Assists with data collection, analysis and manuscript preparation on a project that examines participation of students with disabilities in the NM-YRRS.   
  10. Recruits participants for research studies.
  11. Assists with conduct of surveys, focus groups and interviews. 
  12. Provides other support for data collection operations.
  13. Undertakes other data analysis.  
  14. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree obtained no earlier than 24 months prior to the date of hire; no previous work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in children's behavioral health and prevention research. 
  • Intermediate Spanish. 
  • Experience with Stata and/or R statistical software
  • Experience with NVivo qualitative analysis software.   
  • Experience conducting structured literature reviews.
  • Experience collecting data using web-based surveys, especially using REDCap.
  • Experience assisting with the development of IRB applications.
  • Familiarity with data collection through surveys, interviews or focus groups.
