MOLLY MOON'S PRODUCTION LEAD

A Production Lead at Molly Moon’s is responsible for all ice cream maker responsibilities as well as managing daily production to ensure appropriate inventory including fulfillment of all internal and wholesale orders, working in collaboration with their chef to execute accurate ingredient ordering and related processes, and ensuring proper cleaning and food safety protocols. On an average day, our Production Leads are independently creating a production plan, communicating the plan to ice cream makers, ensuring cleaning tasks are fulfilled, executing ordering with vendors in collaboration with their manager, and churning out large batches of ice cream. The Production Lead offers support to other ice cream makers with daily production responsibilities and communicates with the delivery team to ensure fulfillment of orders. This position works collaboratively with their shop’s chef. Problem-solving, strong time management, and effective communication are critical components of this role.

The Production Lead reports to their location Chef and is an important on the ground leader in their kitchen in the execution of Molly Moon’s mission to make the world better, one scoop at a time, as a multigenerational community gathering place where ice cream, sustainability, and happiness are at the core of all we do. ICE CREAM MAKER RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Leads model consistency, quality and efficiency in the day to day operations of their kitchen. They demonstrate best production practices and support the ice cream makers on their team by offering in the moment direction and feedback.

MANAGE DAILY PRODUCTION

Successful Production Leads develop a sense of the larger production needs of the company and partner with their chef to meet the needs of their shop while collaborating in the success of the company as a whole. They take time to understand each team member’s strengths in production and with some guidance from their chef make smart plans that both maximize efficiency utilizing team members strengths and provide opportunities for team members to practice and develop in production areas with opportunities for improvement. They are the first line of problem solving when production needs a helping hand to stay on track. Production Leads are familiar with common issues with recipes, equipment, ingredients, and facilities; and proactively find solutions, communicate, and keep production goals on track.

Production Leads are the entry level management position on the culinary team. They are the Leader in the kitchen when the chef is not present. They are expected to uphold Molly Moon’s quality standards and have a deep understanding of the ingredients and techniques used in executing our recipes as well as what makes molly moon’s ice cream the premium product our customers come back for again and again. Production Leads participate in the training and development of ice cream makers and are an important resource in training new ice cream makers.

INGREDIENT ORDERING and RELATED PROCESSES

Production Leads assist the location chef in placing both internal transfer orders and external orders with vendors. They receive a molly moons email address for ordering related communication with outside vendors and have access to our accounting software r365. Production Leads utilize order guides that are maintained by their chef to complete all ordering tasks each week, they are expected to also use critical thinking skills around upcoming ingredient needs and proactively communicate any concerns or ideas they have to better meet the shop’s ingredient needs for production, including seasonal flavor production.

This role assists with receiving ingredients. The Production Lead helps ensure all invoices and other documentation are handled correctly and they input incoming invoices into our bookkeeping software r365.

KITCHEN CLEANLINESS AND FOOD SAFETY

Production Leads model standard operating procedures and hold the team accountable during a shift to meet kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards. Ice cream is considered a ready to eat food and Production Leads partner with their chef to ensure that the entire team is mindful of keeping our customers safe. They have a thorough knowledge of what the greatest food safety risks are in ice cream and best practices to keep our kitchens clean and safe. They partner with the chef to build team ownership in maintaining a clean and organized work space.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous professional kitchen or production experience is required, culinary school is a plus
  • Previous lead or manager experience in a kitchen or similar environment, internal applicants will be considered if they have demonstrated high performance in the ice cream maker role by receiving a minimum score or 85% in their most recent evaluation
  • Passion for food, cooking, teamwork, and quality
  • Ability to measure ingredients accurately and perform basic kitchen math
  • Ability to work independently while also being a dedicated and collaborative team player, including independent problem solving in the moment
  • Ability to lead others with great communication skills, assumption of positive intent and a professional, friendly attitude
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions with precision as well as give great attention to detail
  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Be available at least 32 hours a week, including weekends, with no planned absences longer than 10 days in a row from June to August
  • Willingness to pick up shifts in other kitchens on occasion strongly preferred
  • Ability to stand eight hours, lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and take required breaks on time
  • Washington State food handler’s permit is required
  • Have access to a phone that can text and make calls
  • Have access to the internet
  • Molly Moon’s is a tobacco free company—we do not hire smokers

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Starting wage: $28.00 - $28.00/hr
  • Current pay range: $28.oo/hr - $28.84/hr (1 year tenure)
  • Two pay increases per year: an annual merit-based raise and a cost of living increase
  • Free medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees who work an average of 20hrs/wk over a period of 6 weeks
    • New employees are eligible for health insurance within 60 days after their first full month of employment
    • Molly Moon’s pays 100% of premium for qualifying employees and their dependent children
    • A spouse may be insured on company plan at employee’s expense
  • Paid sick and safe time: front loaded 16 hours at time of hire and accrues hourly at a rate of .03846/hr
  • Paid vacation available after 6 months of employment
  • Supplemental paid family leave benefits for employees who qualify for and receive Washington State paid family leave
  • 401k with employer match of 1% the first year of participation, 2% year two, and 3% year three and onward
    • Employees are eligible after 6 consecutive months of employment
