The Production Control Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of production activities within our job shop environment. This position requires meticulous planning, coordination, and communication skills to optimize resources and meet production schedules. It requires knowledge of how a manufacturing sheet metal job shop operates.

A Production Control Manager will be proficient in the below specialties:

  • Production Planning: Collaborate with other supervisors and the team to develop production schedules, taking into account job priorities, resource availability, and deadlines.
  • Schedule Coordination:  Coordinate with various departments, including estimating, purchasing, manufacturing, and fabrication, to ensure timely completion of jobs according to customer requirements.
  • Material Management:  Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and components, and coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely availability of materials to support production schedules.
  • Job Tracking: Use the Fulcrum Pro ERP to monitor the progress of jobs throughout the production process, identifying potential bottlenecks and taking proactive measures to address them.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage and delegate work to the production team. This requires daily and sometime hourly check-ins to make sure everyone is prioritizing the right work.  
  • Quality:  Work closely with the team to maintain high standards of product quality, identifying and addressing any issues that may arise during production. Document NCR and CAPA reports as needed.
  • Documentation:  Review and send Order Confirmations with correct details. Ensure shipping method and address have been confirmed with customer. Ensure the BOM and routings for all items have prints/models and necessary notes within the operations for the team on the floor.
  • Continuous Improvement:  Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the production workflow, implementing best practices and facilitating training as necessary.
  • Communication:  Serve as a primary point of contact for production-related inquiries, providing regular updates to customers on the status of jobs and addressing any concerns or issues promptly. Update any customer-specific portals with necessary production due dates.  If dates will be missed, work with customer to offer partial shipments etc. Strong communication skills are critical.
  • Supervisory: Manage approximately 6-8 direct reports (laser operator, press brake operator, powder coaters, manufacturing technicians, etc.) Administer quarterly and yearly reviews as well as other performance check-ins and assessments.  
Other Job Requirements:

  • Experience in production planning or scheduling within a job shop environment IS REQUIRED.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with manufacturing ERP software
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities are essential for success in this role.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Ability to work in an environment that can be loud.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Operate a forklift.
  • Assist other employees as necessary with duties such as de-nesting laser cut parts, deburring, assembly, minor machining such as tapping, countersinking, etc.
  • Any other shop duties as requested by staff that can be done in a safe manner.
  • Enjoy working around dogs that can be mildly annoying.
