Job description

The Production Artist ensures the accuracy of designs in the final stages of development and is the last person to see and check files before production. The Production Artist works directly with many members of the creative team including the operational marketing manager, project coordinator, graphic designers, traffic coordinator, editors and product line managers (PLMs) to complete jobs from inception as well as assist with jobs already in progress. 

Responsibilities

  • Layout and format technical documents (FAQs, Installation Guides, Recommendation Bulletins, Reference Guides, Technical Bulletins, Update Broadcast and White Papers), Technical Data Sheets (TDSs), product catalogs, brochures, advertisements, grout cards and other marketing collaterals.
  • Work closely with the creative team to execute all design work on schedule.
  • Create language-specific versions of marketing collaterals upon receiving Spanish and French translations.
  • Prepare final artwork for production and release final press-ready artwork to vendors. Provide final job specifications and instructions. 
  • Review proofs/printed samples, make any necessary changes during the proofing process and verify all necessary signoffs have been obtained.
  • Adhere to MAPEI's established workflow, following processes and procedures to ensure timely turnaround for projects with an emphasis on quality-control and attention-to-detail. 
  • Maintain design templates, files, folders, and artwork. Comply with MAPEI's guidelines on folder structure and naming conventions.
  • Help maintain design templates, resources and image libraries such as color swatches, logos, icons, 3D renderings and photography assets.
  • Participate and contribute to department workflow, making suggestions for future improvements and helping implement changes. Assist in the development of all new design standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting as needed in order to ensure the highest-quality output is achieved.
  • Maintain clear communication with internal and external associates, clients and vendors at all times throughout the production process.
  • Remain up to date on technical skills and knowledge for all computer software and industry-related topics associated with the production process, including pre-press file preparation and digital and offset printing.
  • Provide specifications for print and may be required to assist the Marketing Resource Manager to order/reorder.
  • Actively assist in continuous improvement activities and offer positive suggestions for improvements and innovations.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules and instructions.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and three years relevant industry experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience and/or training.
  • A high standard for quality-control and attention-to-detail is essential
  • Must have technical knowledge of pre-press file preparation with a clear understanding of digital and offset printing, ink separations, die lines, bleed, PDF profiles and all other production-specific details.
  • Experienced in working on Apple Macintosh computers running macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. 
  • Proficient at using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, Acrobat and Bridge). 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and OneDrive).
  • Proficient at using font management software such as Extensis Connect Fonts.
  • Well-versed with using project management software (Robohead) and performing electronic proofing and reviews.
  • Proficient at using and organizing assets for Digital Asset Management (DAM) software such as Photo Shelter.
