POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Product Test Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, and conducting protocols for equipment, quality standards, and processes used for internal and external product regulatory, safety, and quality requirements. The Product Test Engineer will work with cross-functional peers in new product development, product engineering, supply chain, quality assurance, production and marketing to drive product compliance standards and continuous quality improvements that ultimately contribute to profitable growth of the business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
- Study product characteristics or customer requirements to determine quality objectives and standards.
- Define, budget and vet testing equipment resources based on testing plans and needs.
- Design test fixtures and special equipment for testing purposes.
- Analyze test data to determine whether systems or processes have met quality requirements or identify root causes of product failures if applicable.
- Communicate with product engineers and designer’s Product Test results, root causes, recommended solutions, and devise plans with stakeholders the best course of action for product improvements and revisions.
- Develop quality master plans per brand, product category, and product line with process flow diagrams, test cases, and standard operating procedures.
- Prepare detailed reports based on results of validation and qualification tests.
- Design and implement validation study features, such as sampling, testing, operational characteristics, and other analytical methodologies.
- Create, populate, and maintain database of product quality test results and product compliance standards are met.
- Review government regulations related to product compliance and implement proper testing procedures, product requirements (labeling requirements and certifications)
- Engage in process flows to coordinate across department specific product requirements such as product and package compliance labeling such as CE, RoHS, Prop 65, etc.
- Conduct audits to ensure product compliance with internal or regulatory requirements and internal databases are up to date.
- Participate in product requirement reviews (conceptual design phase), preliminary design reviews, and critical design reviews with product development and product engineering team members.
- Coordinate scheduling and testing plans with product stakeholders in order to complete testing and evaluation of prototypes.
- Perform training of key staff of testing equipment, testing protocols, and standard operation procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- 3 years’ experience in quality engineering or similar role.
- Ability to use CAD software such as Solidworks.
- Experience in FEA software a plus.
- Experience with quality control analysis and conducting tests and inspection of products to evaluate quality and performance.
- Knowledge of engineering techniques and principles.
- Ability to read technical plans, blueprints, and drawings.
- Fast learner of electronics, testing equipment, and computer hardware
- Ability for 5-10% travel is required.
WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS
Main hours are Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm.
Schedules will vary depending on business needs, and may entail working nights, weekends and holidays. Must be flexible to work outside of normal departmental operating hours.
