Product Test Engineer

Research & Development, Hardware Product Test Group

1 regular full-time position, located in Logan, UT

Closing Date: March 13, 2024

What You'll Work On The Hardware Product Test Group is responsible for testing Campbell Scientific products. This includes design validation on a hardware level and operating systems/firmware performance. The role of a Hardware Product Test Engineer is to be an active member of the development team with a focus on product validation. Hardware Product Test Engineers participate in developing automation tools, defining product specifications, developing test cases, finding/reporting/tracking product issues, and refining the test processes. Successful candidates will demonstrate a combination of skills in electronics and software.

What We're Looking For

+ Degree in electrical engineering, robotics and communications systems, computer science, software engineering, information technology, or related field.

+ Experience testing sensors and data recording and acquisition systems, preferred.

+ Experience with internet communication protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, HTTPS, WebSockets, FTP, SMTP, MQTT, and other internet protocols, preferred.

+ Experience with computer programming and/or scripting languages such as JavaScript, Python, PHP, C#, or C++ preferred.

+ Experience with test automation software such as Node Red, Selenium, PyTest, or other test automation software, preferred.

+ Experience using bug tracking systems such as JIRA.

+ Ability to identify user experience failures and provide solutions to improve the user experience.

+ Ability to ensure Campbell Scientific products are fit for purpose and meet product objectives.

+ Knowledge of test methods and testing lifecycles.

+ Computer and associated software skills, including Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, Excel, etc.).

+ A love for problem-solving, especially when seeking solutions that do not come easily.

+ Willingness to volunteer for difficult tasks.

+ Work well in a team environment.

+ Excellent oral and written English communication skills.

You'll Support Your Team By Performing the Following Key Task

+ Participate in product development process by providing input on requirements, design, and testability.

+ Fulfill the role of a Test Engineer in product development teams.

+ Create and execute test plans.

+ Develop manual and automated test systems.

+ Document and report test results.

+ Analyze defects discovered during testing and reported by customers.

+ Maintain test systems.

+ Develop best practices and improve testing procedures to ensure product performance, reliability, scalability, and overall quality.

+ Support the technical writing staff in the creation of user manuals, application notes, case studies, and educational materials.

Work Environment

Typical office environment with computer workstation. Occasional travel may be required, typically the equivalent of two or fewer weeks per year, including industry conferences and customer visits.

Physical requirements

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over short distances as needed. Sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, and other movements consistent with office environments.
