Overview

J.McLaughlin is a specialty American Sportswear and Accessories brand headquartered in New York. J.McLaughlin has a reputation for being “local and loyal”, building meaningful relationships within each community and providing customers with highly personalized service. We are looking for a highly motivated, results driven Mens product and style expert with a passion for classic American Sportswear and the ability to achieve goals and objectives while upholding the ideals and standards of the company. The ideal candidate should be results driven and lead by example in building impactful relationships. As a brand ambassador they will be expected to be the expert in our Mens product and transmit that knowledge to our sales teams, gather actionable client feedback and develop clients and business opportunities to grow and cultivate the menswear business.

This role will be based in our Greenpoint, Brooklyn Corporate headquarters and will spend time with our store teams in our Northeast store locations. Travelling will be expected in support of new business opportunities including trunk shows and product/sales seminars. The role will report to the District Manager of NY Metro and work in close partnership with the Menswear cross-functional team.

About the role

Essential Functions:

  • Work to evolve the current perception of the men’s shop and present J. McLaughlin as an authority in menswear with 40+ years of experience in the field.
  • Act as a Brand Ambassador by embracing the company culture to develop and cultivate strong relationships with clients and our communities.
  • Provide exemplary client service to create a customer centric, friendly retail environment that fosters loyalty within our communities.
  • Utilize client outreach techniques to inform customers of upcoming events and when new product arrives.
  • Act as a liaison between the Product team and the regional store teams to provide product information and men’s specific sales strategies.
  • Organize in-person and virtual product information seminars with stores.
  • Explore business to business opportunities and other creative sales strategies to access corporate teams, clubs, and other groups.
  • Explore other non-traditional sales channels outside of the stores to develop new business.
  • Act as the company’s internal men’s style guide and expert.
  • Partner with the retail marketing team organize and host selling events such as but no limited to Trunks Shows. Travel for these selling events and act as the representee for J . McLaughlin Menswear.
  • Partner with the retail marketing team to host events
  • Observe, evaluate, and provide notes on the Visual Merchandising of the men’s shops/departments to improve the impact and consistency of the floor sets and displays.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Help create and maintain a culture of kindness that is client and team focused.
  • Maintain knowledge on current merchandise, pricing, and promotions to communicate to clients.
  • Utilize selling techniques to help overcome objectives and close a sale.
  • Understand sales plans, key metrics, and how they contribute to the brand’s overall success
  • Participate and take an active role in store events and trunk shows, continuing to build a reputation of being a local and loyal retailer.
  • Answer customer questions, inquiries, and concerns to resolve customer issues in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, peers, and other stores teams
  • Take a collaborative approach, sharing best practices, ideas, and information with peers across all markets and build productive relationships.
  • Assist in the execution all direction from Retail Operations and the Corporate Office.
  • Understand and adhere to company policies and procedures and standards of professionalism.
  • Lead by example and maintain the highest level of integrity at all times.

What we are looking for

Skills & Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • In-depth knowledge of menswear design and product specifications
  • Experience training and communicating with sales teams
  • Ability to generate and capitalize on new business opportunities
  • Ability to plan and host VIP selling events and appointments
  • Ability to develop a clientele base and develop new customers
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous sales, retail or customer service required
  • Proven track record achieving results
  • Positive and self-motivated to win every customer
  • Consistently demonstrate accountability, reliability, and professionalism
  • High energy and results driven
  • Adapts positively to change and has strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task, while keeping the customer the top priority
