Job Purpose:
As the Automotive Product Development Engineer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to innovate and deliver cutting-edge plastic routing and clipping solutions for the Transportation industry.
Responsibilities:
1. Innovative Design: Develop groundbreaking plastic routing and clipping fasteners that not only meet but exceed Design Specifications, ensuring competitiveness in the market.
2. New Product Development: Take charge of designing and developing new products, utilizing advanced 3D CAD in OEM-specified software.
3. Specification Drafting: Draft and validate specifications, including but not limited to Design Specifications, DFMEA's, DVP&R's, test requests, and purchase orders.
4. CAD Modeling: Utilize CAD to create concepts, customer models, detail models, assemblies, and accompanying drawings.
5. Engineering Design Reviews: Schedule, record details, and distribute summaries of Engineering Design Reviews, fostering a collaborative and efficient design process.
6. Design Optimization: Design for optimized part and mold tool performance, incorporating injection molding design best practices.
7. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T): Apply GD&T to control product profiles and locations, ensuring precision in design.
8. Tolerance Stack-ups: Calculate tolerance stack-ups to control the fit between mating parts, contributing to the overall quality of the final product.
9. Change Management: Utilize the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process to implement changes and improvements within the system.
10. Mold Flow Analysis: Request mold fill analysis to optimize part, mold, and manufacturing process where needed.
11. Patent Reviews: Conduct patent searches for new designs and review existing patents before final submission.
12. Automation Integration: Collaborate with the Automation Department to design products that seamlessly integrate with the automation process.
13. Root Cause Analysis: Assist the Quality and Operations departments with root cause analyses and improvements.
14. Tooling Monitoring: Monitor the revision or construction of rapid prototypes and limited production molds, ensuring adherence to design specifications.
15. Test Development: Design tests and develop test fixtures to measure actual part performance against design specs, recording results in the DVP&R.
16. Performance Validation: Validate actual product performance against design specs, ensuring the highest standards of quality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred; minimum Associate Degree in Mechanical Design, Plastics Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in 3D CAD software (Catia v5 R26 or newer, or NX12 or newer preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in injection molding product engineering.
- 3+ years of experience applying DFM (design for manufacturing) to injection molded plastic designs.
