- Engage in the company's core consumer product lines, including handheld and benchtop power tools, storage products, Outdoor Products, and cleaning products.
- Support current and future programs with process modeling software tools, such as Autodesk Moldflow.
- Consult with engineers, tooling, and manufacturing personnel to optimize part design, tool design, and processes for injection molded and compression molded parts.
- Coordinate and develop the complete analysis process by determining techniques, gathering material property data, and dimensional/cosmetic requirements of the part.
- Make recommendations to improve dimensional stability, strength, and the cosmetic appearance of injection molded parts.
- Determine the effects of process variables, cooling rates, and residual stresses on structural integrity of plastic parts using CAE structural analysis.
- Work with long fiber thermoplastics and mineral filled, talc filled and/or glass filled polymers.
- Effectively communicate findings with Project Engineers, tool shops, molding facilities, and other suppliers to ensure high quality parts.
- Correlate analytical results to molded parts and reverse engineer problems to replicate in Moldflow to find solutions.
- Effectively oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring necessary analysis results are delivered on time and parts are properly reviewed for manufacturability.
- Provide technical guidance to direct reports and other team members, manage technical directions, set priorities, and establish deadlines.
- Provide training and guidance to team members for career development and learning.
Job Requirements:
- Master of Science or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field and 5 years of professional experience in plastics injection molding simulation; or a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field and 7 years of professional experience in plastics injection molding simulation.
- Experience must include:
- Moldflow analysis related to complex injection molded parts.
- Altair Hyperworks, Unigraphics/NX, and other pre-processing tools for CAD preparation, mesh generation, and other tasks related to Moldflow model preprocessing.
- Analysis of unreinforced, mineral-filled, talc-filled, and fiber reinforced thermoset and thermoplastic components, including associated warp and shrink factors.
- Optimizing gate locations, manifold layout, and cooling systems for injection molding tools utilizing complex actions, including modeling cooling circuits, cooling inserts, and thermal pins for large parts with complex geometries.
- Validating technologies including compression molding, conformal cooling, 2-shot over-molding, blow molding, and insert molding.
- Performing root-cause failure analysis and design of experiments to improve dimensional stability and appearance of injection molded parts.
- Performing structural FEA on plastic components using ANSYS Mechanical, LS-Dyna, or similar software and passing fiber orientation mapping from Moldflow to FEA for structural analysis.
- Participation in DFM review and collaboration with Design and Project Engineers to ensure manufacturability of plastic parts.
- Associate, Professional, or Expert level certification for Autodesk Simulation Moldflow software.
- Up to 10% domestic and 5% international travel required to attend mold tool trials.
